Trip from back in March..It’s the first weekend of March Madness and a group of us flew in to LV on Thur. Got a cab to the room. But the room just happened to be on the 18th or 20th floor (can’t remember) of the Turnberry Place. Sweet pad for 1.7 mil, But to me it was like being in a rich mans prison.......you had to even be let out at the gate to leave.(but it’s free) All made possible because of one of our group members boss owns it.

This would be my first trip to Vegas and I had never played poker In a casino. It was intimidating coming from just playing home games, where you know how everyone plays. I walked the strip and hit every poker room just to check them out. I watched at MGM and wanted to play but the money being drop on just the $1 $2 game was more then I felt comfortable with. It was all’in rebuy over and over. So considering how I feel about poker I did not sit down.
My version of life is if you’re all-around better then the next guy, and you can back it up, then you should win. For six months I could never catch a break, I get in good or even great every time and get rivered by a two outer or someone needing one card for a gs straight and hit runner runner for a flush. It just never ends.
So I buy in to the Sahara $60 tourney recommended on AVP. Sit down and very first hand at 25/50 I get pocket 44's and limp in since it’s the first hand and I don’t have a read on anyone. Sb calls BB checks and flop comes 4 8 8. Sweet I’m first and bet 200 into the 150 pot. Sb folds BB raises all’in and I call instantly. He shows A 8 and my fullhouse holds up. (I’m thinking my lucks about to change.....yea right for the next hour and half I get no pairs and NO card higher then a 10.. wow I couldn’t even push people around with connectors (6,7at best) since they called hands down with anything and everything.
I decided screw poker it’s no fun.
The rest of the trip was a blast....summed up: Football margarita’s Downtown, hammered, playing my new favorite game Pai Gow poker. I won $$$ every time I played.
I will be back next year but it’s only to drink, drink, and have fun with friends. I will sit at a $1,$3 game at TI, because it’s the right thing to do, as thanks for this website. And maybe the other players luck will run out. Oh yea and hope to meet some AVP’ers.

Matt
(I’d rather be good then lucky)

  1. Nice report....but please don't base your thoughts about vegas poker off one donkament.

Glad to see another fan of Pai Gow on the board, I love that game, best way to get hammered without risking much $

  2. thanks for posting the report. i know the feeling about sitting down for the first time and it being an experience. the worst experience playing live i've ever had was at bally's when i was just wanting to kill some time before 'the price is right'. my god it was an all-in fest with all regulars. RIDICULOUS. i disliked poker (for all of about 3 hours) after that. keep trying at it and mix up your venues. your opinion will change
