We actually ended up not doing as much drinking and gambling as normal due to being run down at the end of each day but managed to get in a buttload of cool activities. Before I get into my poker descriptions here are a few cool things to do if you haven't already.

Ellis Island: 5.99 steak dinner with microbrewed beer. Sweet.
Liberace Museum: That little fruitcake was truly an icon and one of the best natural musicians I have ever observed.
Skiing: Yes skiing. There's a slope about 45 minutes north of Vegas. I'm from Florida so this is a big deal.
Lunch on top of the Stratosphere: ~50-60 bucks got me and my girlfriend an awesome meal with appetizer and two strong as hell martinis. Plus a breathtaking view of Vegas.

Now poker. We both played the 3 PM $65 buy-in tourny (50 people max) with a $5 add-on at Caesers. The blind structure for the money was awesome with 30 min blinds and ~2500 starting chips. The competition was varied but there were some decent players and a couple of overbetting nutbags. I basically played like a tighty whitey with some decently timed steals until the final table where the game picked up. Ended up splitting the win 3 ways for 600 each. Great dealers and informative to where the easy games are in town. One of the dealers claimed that because they were such a big room they have no need to have a fast blind structure and I believe him. Overall, A+.

Cash game at Bally's, 1-2. When i finally got a seat I noticed a few locals so I looked around for another table but couldn't find one. In about 1 hour they were gone and juicy plump allin fish joined in for some trappedy goodness. People were getting plastered and the vibe was pretty fun as a took some money. The only low point was where I got it allin preflop with Qs v 9s and lost to a flush (~150 bucks!) It happens. Up $200 for the night.

Cash game at Excaliber, 1-2. Play here. Play here. Play here. I saw some of the nuttiest sh-t here I'd ever seen on a poker table. Example. Player 1, bet 7; player 2, bet 50. Player 1 folds and player 2 shows Qs and states, "I didn't want to get them cracked. I'm happy with the $7." Another move I saw was a dude with a busted flush draw call ~45 bucks on just a J high. His claim (on a board paired with 2s), "I didn't think he had the 2." You're right, he didn't. He had As. Up $170 for the night.

  1. Excellent report. I appreciate the "non-poker" info. I think I'll have to try the Ellis Island steak dinner. Many on here have mentioned its good food for a great price.

  2. Two comments. First, I believe everything you said about the poker rooms you mentioned. Second, Ellis Island is a great deal, although the steak sucks. But hey, it's $5.99.

  3. Outstanding title - I love Beck.
