Bachelor Party / Super Bowl - Weekend Getaway...
Just beat the snow out of Milwaukee on 1/31 and landed in Vegas about an hour late, around 12am on Friday. Got the car and headed to the Grand View next to South Point - Resort was awesome as we were staying with some friends in their timeshare. This is my 9th trip to Vegas in 8 years.
Friday am we headed to South Point and there was some action but I'm not much of a NLH player so we decided just to hit some table game action and hit the sack so we could play in the AM tourney. Friday had about 50 players - I couldn't catch a break on the River at all, as i was rivered 3 times in the tourney within the first hour and couldn't survive. The 4 card flushes were getting to be a bit ridiculous. Great tourney though, good dealers, good payout, Ok starting chips 1500 and blinds were a little longer than a normal all-in fest tourney. My buddy finished 4th and made about $150 over his buyin. After that we met up with the Bachelor and just went with it for the rest of the evening.
Saturday we woke up in time for the 9am tourney again. Saturday brought in a larger crowd, somewhere around 55 players. Like I said the river killed me again and i sank in to play some 2-4. My buddy didn't place this time so we headed down to the Golden Nugget to catch up with the bachelor party crew. We decided to settle in and started playing some 2-4 action there. I burnt through $100 getting torched again by the river - My theme of the weekend.
Sunday we showed up just before 9am and we had been shut out of the tourney. This was very frustrating since we had asked Friday how many dealers there would be and they said 10 for the day on Sunday and ended up having 6. Management was really poor at South Point but i didn't hold that against the room or the dealers. They didn't break down the 1 remaining 1-2 NLH game that had only 3 people playing to free up another dealer. Needless to say that game broke up quickly. I got in line to wait for 2-4 to play a bit before the super bowl and got seated. After about 45 minutes of play I got Q-10s, flopped the A-J and turned the K for the royal flush and a $300 bonus - Would have been better with any other suit but my first royal ever was kind of exciting. Finished the session up about $350 and headed to the Sports Book to watch the game. The game was fairly boring so 1 friend and I headed back to the poker room to watch the game sitting down and playing some cards. This is where management failed. They sat my buddy right away and I waited for about 45 minutes while they seated others before having to "re-checkin" - Not one time did the MOD who i had talked to all weekend look over and say "oh I'm sorry I forgot to check the list for people we may have skipped" and got back in at the top of the list. Played some more through out the game, had a southern guy yell a racial slur at Randy Moss when he scored the TD which made things very uneasy for a long time afterwards.
Other than management I totally recommend playing at South Point and staying there if you don't mind parking for the weekend - It was about $30 to catch a cab to the south end of the strip though on SB weekend which was ridiculous.

The game was far from boring.
7 - 3 @ half = boring...
The last 2 minutes were exciting if you like luck and a low level of offensive skill
Defenses win championships and make for terrible games...
Re South Point Shift Supervisors. (managers)
I work at the South Point but took that weekend off. Can you give me more detail on the problems you had with the supervisors?
I assume the tournament your talking about is the 10: am tournament on Sunday morming not 9 am.
Regarding the short handed live game that was going, the floor is not allowed to break a live game for a tournament table.
Do you remember the name of the supervisor(s) you had problems with?

I don't recall his name any more but it was an asian gentleman who was working (all i believe) of the morning shifts but most definitely the morning of the super bowl.
Issue #1: Friday we were told that there would be 10 dealers for the tourney on Sunday and for the whole day during the game.
Issue #2: Really slow getting waiting players into open seats. It may have been the unexpected pace of super bowl Sunday and any normal day they may have been just fine.
As for the live game - I had a feeling they couldn't just break it down but it looked sickly with 3 people and at least 10 people who could have been in the tourney
I would have shown earlier if I had any idea it was going to be that popular! Next time, next time.
All in all, i really like this casino and hotel and I'm going to stay there (or the grand view) again some time in the future if i can drag myself away from staying on the strip again.
Omnibot,
Thanks for the info, I'll look into it.
