EA15 - Black Lung
Michael and I had the intention of going to four smoking rooms for the excellant adventure. He was going to smoke until he ran out of cigarettes. But we ran into a couple of snags.
At 10pm we met at Arizona Charlies. I sit down with $100 in a 1-2 no-limit hold'em game. In three hands I'm broke and ready to fight with another guy at the table. The first hand I flop a set and a guy hits a gut shot. OK, bad luck. Two hands later I get top pair with a good kicker. The same guy as before hits a gut shot to beat me again.
OK, bad luck again. But with a twist. A moron at the table starts laughing at me. This irritates me to the point where I have to leave before he's wearing my drink. I am not a fan of bad manners at the table. I try not to rub it in when people lose. I try not to slow roll. I don't question stupid play. And it bothers me when anyone else does these things. TV brought a wave of new players to poker. But it has glorified bad behavior. I lose $100
So I storm off and meet Mike at boulder a half hour later. Boulder is an 11 table room that specializes in Omaha Hi and smoking. we sit in a 4-8 game for about 2 hours. I win $265, Mike wins over a hundred.
The next stop is Palace Station. Up until a few weeks ago, they allowed smoking after 12:30am. No more. No smoking allowed. We played for about 30 minutes. I lost $25. No smoking is a bad move in my opinion. Smokers are a demographic that is not being catered to enough.
The last planned stop is the last smoking room. The low limit side of the Palms. However, they have no games so we go to my old stomping ground, the Treasure Island. This room has been reviewed to death. Its an 8 table room that gave us the original mixed game, the bounty tournament, and a handsome young floor man named TIPerry. So they have a history of greatness.
We arrive and Troy Horning is running the room. Troy will be running his own room some day, he is the best of the shift managers there. The only game going is No-River hold'em. We jump in and play for about an hour and a half. I lose $60. It was fun to go back to my old room. If you want to try out the TI, their best offering is the Bounty tournament. You get $50 a head for knocking people out of the tournament.
We leave at about 5am and go to Red Rock. We jump into a 1-2 nl game. I drop $80. Fun game.
Overall I break even for the whole trip. It was good to get to these rooms. The only "new" room is the TI. It is a nice smaller room. But if you want to smoke, Boulder is the best place to go. (I'm thinking of starting, I've heard good things.)
The most important thing on this trip is michael was able to bid farewell to smoking and the smoking rooms of Las Vegas. Good luck on quitting sir!
