East Coast-Venetian
Because of work and living on the east coast when doing a Vegas trip for a long weekend it can be very tiring. It all started when I took an 8 am Flight on JetBlue out of Boston with a layover in Long Beach, Ca. When landing in Long Beach I thought that the jet was going to keep on going right off the runway, No joke! The runway and airport are smaller than my hometown air port in central Massachusetts. Then when you get of the plan you are right on the tarmac. Which is kind of cool I defiantly have never done that before walking right by the tires of air planes. When in the air port with 5000 people I had to stand because the place only has enough room for 500. Luckily my layover was only 30 minutes and I was quickly on my way to Las Vegas. After arriving at the Venetian check in was quick because we stayed in the Venezia tower, we booked a room without a view of the strip so, we opted to go for the $40 more a night for a view of the Mirage volcano. When first going into the room it was nothing special. The TV’s junk, stain on the carpet yuck. Other than that it was a big room with very ugly comfitures. I think that I was expecting something more modern and not as old fashion as it was. With that being said I spent a total of 2 hours a night in the room just to sleep. The first night when getting ready to go to dinner I looked out the window and saw absolutely no volcano working yep just my luck. Then headed over the Bellagio to eat dinner at the lovely Picasso arriving a little early for our dinner reservation they did not have an open spot for our party so, I just sat at the bar and drank wine. After about twenty minutes they nice host asked us to please follow him as He took us out to the patio to eat dinner. This was the best part of the trip if I could recommend anything get the first row on the patio. The view although you are on the ground is the best in Vegas. You practically are sitting on the fountains at Bellagio while eating dinner, one word breathtaking. The food was good, I did the price fix menu which is 113 smackers but well worth it getting to say you ate pigeon. The total bill was 500 bucks with tip and wine for three people. After dinner I headed back to the Venetian to get changed and play some poker. Now we are at 11 pm pacific time and I sit down at a 1-2nl I buy in with $210 and play till 5 am Pacific Time when I got felted. For the whole night I only got up to about $400 dollars with that being said there was a lot of money getting thrown around and a lot of straddles being put on. It was a fun game that played a lot bigger then 1-2nl. Now after being up well over 24 hours I go back to my room to get some sleep. I wake up early while everyone is still sleeping because I still am on east coast and am use to waking up early every morning to go to work. So, its 8am and I am playing Black Jack by myself and I am winning boom! Got to change decks the nice pit boss tells me. Which is okay because now everyone else is up went to eat at the grand lux café. I had the buffet which was very good, I strongly recommend it and for only $15 well worth it. Because the juice alone here is 5 bucks! If you get the buffet you get coffee and juice with it. Now we are heading out to walk the strip. Since TI was right across the street I wanted to stop in and say hi and play some poker. All my friends had no clue why I wanted to go see the people at TI. I told them I kind of feel like I know them just from this web site. =) it was around 10am and the room was closed =** (. So, I never got to meet and play with all the lovely TI poker staff. After that we hit almost every hotel on the strip drinking and playing Black Jack. Around 6pm I go back down to the Venetian poker room and buy in for $600 and play 2-5nl poker. After playing for a couple of hours I get dealt TT don’t know if it the lack of sleep or just a bad beat But, I walk right into kings and lose all my money there was no over and I thought he was making a move oh well that’s poker. Now I go back to the room and take a nap to get ready for downtown. To describe my time downtown I will be very brief one word, DUMP! I don’t think I will ever go back downtown. Get back to the venation play some black jack lose more money and then get to bed around 3 am. Wake up the next day take a helicopter ride down to the hover dam. Then watched the Celtics at the Mandalay Bay sports book which had the audio going but it was a 4 screen split. I think I like the Venetian sports book better with having playoff basketball games on one big screen. I took the Celtics at -2 and lost. After the game I head back to the airport to go back to Boston. Because of the people I went to Vegas with lived in Florida I was going through the airport by myself. After getting of the tram at my terminal there was this beautiful girl that I felt was trying to get on the escalator the same time I was. So, I tell myself say something. (I’m thinking ummm, hmmm, ummm) and I finally say it. Traveling alone? She looks at me very strangely and said yeah. After awkward silence (I start thinking of another question) where you from? Her response here. Now we are the top of the escalator she goes right and I go left. If she happens to read this or tells anyone about this awkward moment that she had at the airport. Please tell her that I am a nice guy who is not a creep and just was on lack of money and sleep! Now I wait to get on my red eye back to Boston. When on the flight back my TV did not work which did not matter because I was so tried I slept all the way till the plain was over New York.
So in conclusion I don’t think I would stay at the Venetian again. If you are going to Vegas with the guys and are around the age of 21 to 29 stay at the palms! Even 12 in the afternoon the Palms is crawling with girls. When I go back that is where I am going to stay!

Nice report. Thanks for posting.
Yeah, the girl situation at the airport sounded a bit awkward. Funny though!
Sorry to hear that the TI poker Room was closed when you went there in the morning. It is really a sad state of affairs with that situation.
Anyways, glad you enjoyed your time here, and got in some good poker and blackjack time!
For some reason this trip report made me laugh.
It sounds like you left some money at the tables in Vegas but you took it well and seemed to really enjoy your time out there.
As for the girl at the airport, at least you said SOMETHING to her rather than wished you said something to her.
If you say hi to 20 girls and 1 of them responds positively, its better than not saying anything to anyone and wondering "what if".
Thanks for the report. Too bad you were not impressed with the rooms at the V or Downtown. I plan on getting some early morning blackjack action, as well. Good luck on your next trip!

Nice report. I have to agree that the V's target market is not groups of 21-29 year old males on buddy trips, lol. I think it targets people like me, 49 and married with my wife along.
About the airport situation, look at it as a freeroll. You really can't lose but can certainly win a lot. I must agree that the Venetian is really a poor place for a younger crowd. Its a nice hotel but probably has one of the highest average ages throught the the whole strip. (still less than the 4 seasons though)
