First poker trip to vegas
Went to Vegas for a week and mostly focused on tournaments (and shows and buffets). My favorite poker room to play at was Red Rock. I like the deep stack play, starting with 6000 in chips with the add on. (The $5 add on for an extra 1000 in chips just started 8/11/2008). The players there were mostly locals and very solid players.
The most aggressive playing I saw was a 2pm tournament at Planet Hollywood. One guy, who I think might have been a young pro, bet off 1/2 of his starting stack on the second or third hand and mucked his hand when called on the river without even seeing the other hand. Obviously bluffing with complete air. He showed no reaction at all. The play at Ceasers was very aggressive also.
We really liked the poker room at the South Point, although their tournaments started a little short stacked for my taste. The morning tournament started with 1500. They have a freeroll tournamemnt for ladies on Sunday evening. There is no charge or playing time required. But they start the signup with them women playing in the cash games. We went and joined a 2/4 limit game about 2:30 and my wife didn't have any trouble getting signed up. The prize pool for that free roll is $1000 (three places, $600 for first). Although in her tournament they chopped at 9 players.
Overall the tournament play was very enjoyable. I was surprised how many tournaments were chopped. Every tournament I cashed in was choppped except one.
Here are a couple of updates to the tournment info listed on the site.
There is no 6:00 pm tournament at Rio.
The 9:00 pm tournament at Ceasers is a bounty tournament. 1/2 of the prize money goes to $50 bounties. The one I played at TI at 7:00 pm on Sunday was also a bounty tournament.
The $100 tournaments at Red Rock just started a $5 add-on for an extra 1000 chips (6k instead of 5k)
