Limit Omaha with the locals
In Vegas for a convention, of course I would use the opportunity to get in some poker. I am primarily a limit player. Seeing how limit is basically dying out right now, I was having a hard time finding good games. I played some 4-8 at the MGM Grand and at the Belagio ... they were decent games, but nothing really wild. I was staying off-strip over by Boulder Highway and decided to check out Boulder Station. I was pleasanly surprised - there are actually more limit tables there than NL. On Thursday and Friday (11/8 & 11/9) they had 2-3 tables of 4-8 Hold'em and 2-3 tables of 4-4-8-8 Omaha. They also had a table of 3-4 Hold'em. The Hold'em action was average, but the Omaha was quite juicy. There were sometimes 3-5 players all the way to the river, creating some monster pots. The river cards evened out for me during my sessions and I was able to book a nice profit.
I did well playing tighter than the locals. Stick with the suited aces and/or 4 high cards. There were a lot of donators playing all sorts of raggity stuff for straights, a sure way to go broke with almost everyone seeing the flop. It took a pretty mean hand to win, but you got paid hansomely.
Some of the people were what I would call 'bitter locals' but most were friendly. The dealers were decent. The casino gives a $1/hour comp. for poker.
Warning: This is a smoking room. I am not a smoker, but I could live with the suroundings, seeing that they have a lot of ventilation.
For those of you who like to play low-limit Hold'em and Omaha, and want to miss the traffic on the strip, Boulder Station is not a bad way to go.

Nice trip report. I also love this room. I play there every time im in vegas. It is mostly a locals room, but they are soft. I also love the fact that I think it is the only smoking room left in vegas.
