Poker Weekend - MLK
I will not bore you with details of where I stayed, what I ate, what clubs I went to or what time I went to the bathroom. Afterall, this is a poker site, so I will keep it to poker. But I will tell you tales of high stakes poker at the Bellagio and the CRAZIEST game I was ever a part of.
Arrived Wed. night and immediately headed to the Bellagio for some 10-20 No Limit Hold em. They only had one table going so I played 5-10 NL instead. Very tight table, many pros. I was told most of the "fish" do not arrive to the weekend so I left after a 4 hour session.
Thursday night went and tried Caesars. No 5-10 NL game so had to play 2-5. Very tight table once again, what is up with Vegas?
Friday, back to the Bellagio, this time I was able to get seated on a 10-20 NL table. Average stack was about $8K, I bought in for $2K, played tight, got felted once...here was the hand. Woman stradles for $40, 4 callers, I am the BB and look down at AK of Hearts, I just call. Stradler then raises to $240, four callers, I decide to call. Flop comes A-2-2 rainbow. I check, she checks, button bets $300. I raise to $600, she calls, button folds. Turn comes a blank. I go all in for $1200, she instantly calls and flips AA for a full boat..ouch! Could anyone get away from that hand???? I end up rebuying and get my $2K back.
After a night of drinking on Saturday head to the Bellagio at about 1:00 am for some 10-20 NL. Now this is were the fun begins!! After playing for two hours and making about $1K I make it to the main game and am severely outstacked. Avg. stack $12K, I have about $3K. There was one stack of $44K! Game starts out kind of loose with some stradeling, etc. Then I hot shot, high roller sits down. Tells the pit boss he is playing $5K behind and tells him to get the $ from his credit line. First hand under the gun he raises to $400 without looking, a woman raises to $1000, he puts her all in (after he sees his AK) and she calls with QQ. Bingo K on he flop! Now he has more $$ and a lot more confidence. He is still drinking at this point and says anyone at the table who does a shot of Patrone with him gets $100. I decline and he gets a couple of takers.
The rest of the night consists of the craziest poker I have played, I will leave out the details, but I saw more all ins on draws and middle pair calls than ever. I even witnessed a $35K pot.
I am not sure how some of you can sit and play 1-2 NL for hours and hours. Save that for Grandma's B-Day party and family reunions. If you go to Vegas, step your limits up a notch, you won't regret it!

Thanks for the buying short lessons and thanks for not boring us with details of a 35k hand....
Hmm, yes, please add some more detail here under comments about a few of those big hands, otherwise good report. As for playing higher, yes what the hell sometimes, you only live once. On the other hand, reference trip report from 1/2/08 titled "Almost Cracked 10-20NL at Bellagio" to witness why even those who can 'afford' to lose $20k or so shouldn't necessarily do so. I like poker, but it takes a lot less than a $20k pot to catch a thrill!
@borgatabud
Aye, takes me 2.95 and a margarita :
@highbidder22
stake me, and consider me there! Until then I am just going to be like the rest of the degenerates and grind it out at 1/2 and 2/5. DAMN! I hate poker!
OK, never been in that type of situation.
but, I would have enjoyed some Patrone to be sure.
Please tell about 34K hand.
And what did you end up with?
thanks,Gary
@highbidder22
So, you've successfully insulted 99% of AVPers, or at least tried to.
Good job (not).
Grandma's birthday only comes once a year. In order to get more experience I had to expand my "low limit" game to anniversary's, niece/nephews graduations, sisters weddings, etc.... If I only had more relatives, I could get good enough to get in those "high" dollar games.
@loose cannon
<<I am not sure how some of you can sit and play 1-2 NL for hours and hours.>>
Trust me, I'm content to sit and wait - hours and hours are fine with me. In fact, believe it or not, I actually enjoy it!
I'd step up my limits, but I'd be contradicting everything I preach on this site about bankroll management.
@highbidder22
Although there are far more boring, uninteresting TR's to be found, IMO this may be the worst TR I've ever read, for many surprising reasons. just thought i'd share...
And IF he's telling the truth, and a big IF that is, he's a foolish player drinking and gambling at those stakes, just the kind of fish we love to run into to feed the tables at the stakes our respective bankrolls allow us to play....
This trip reports sounds an awful lot like one of those letters to a particular magazine that starts off with: "I never thought this would hapen to me but...."
"Name and address withheld upon request."
Alright guys. No need to go attacking. I have a feeling this may be locked soon anyway...
If he was offering $100 per shot of patron and he did this a few times throughout the night, you probably could have made a nice hourly rate by folding and doing 3-4 shots of patron...
@lesvegas
LOL very well done.
@highbidder22
Umm, yeah, pretty easy to get away from that hand with 4-6 way action (it's hard to tell from your post, but looks like there is the straddler, four callers and you in the hand?). With a pot of ~$960-$1,440, the button's flop bet of $300 is so small it is either a probe bet or a value bet ... it's really hard to think you are ahead of the field here. And why did you only min-raise? With your stack, you are in a push or fold spot here. Actually, if you were going to commit your stack, why not push preflop for a nice pot there?
Of course, you were likely running some sophisticated big game play here that a 1/2 player like myself couldn't understand.
I think there are a lot of people who watch poker on TV and fantasize about being that high stakes pro....easy to see someone posting here just to pump himself up and feel like the bigshot.
Just my opinion.....myself, I enjoy reading about someone's experiences at the cash and trny tables....as long as they're believable and truthful.
