Riders WSOP Trip Day 2 Night
Day 3
June 1st
Here’s a recap of last nights activities.
I can now add another first of my list; 12 hours of 1/2 at the MGM. Table 1 - Seat 8.
Sat down with an initial buy in of $200. Proceeded to dwindle it down to $70 on some really bad play. Added another hundred to my stack, I don’t like to play small stacked, and then grinded it out until midnight for a nice $400+ profit. Playing for 12 hours makes it difficult to remember many hands but here are a few hands/situations that came up:
- Dealt pockets sixes in late position. Villain is in the SB. I limp, hoping to hit my set. SB/BB complete and the flop comes 688. Sweet… Of course I’m slow playing to the end. Turn is a Q. Check around. River is a 2. Throw in a value bet of $10 hoping for some action. Villain bumps it another $20. I was the big stack at the table so I assume he thought I was bluffing. I re-raise for another $20. He goes over the top again. Now I’m confused. Do I raise again or is his boat bigger than mine. Finally decided to call, scared of the Q8 or 86. He turns over 22 for the smaller boat.
- This hand occurred after ~10hrs of playing. In all that time I had not gotten KK or AA once. So I finally get AA in the cut-off. Make my standard raise of $12. (I know that seems high for 1-2, but anything below $10 would get 6 callers) The button goes over the top for ~25. Of course I make the call and we are heads-up. I’m about 700 behind, button has ~150. Flop comes Kxx. I think for a minute and decide to slow play and make the check. Button bets out $25. So I have him on AK and feeling good. This is where I make my mistake. I push all-in and of course he instant calls and turn KK. Turn doesn’t help and the river brings the case K for quads. With the K hitting the river I might have been able to save a few dollars but it happens.
- Grind myself back up to ~600 or so and get A10 in late position. Make my $12 raise and get two callers, SB & girl on my left. Flop is all rags and check around. Turn brings a 2, checks to me so I throw out $25. SB folds and girl on my right goes into the tank. She’s does the stare down for like 2 minutes, I think she can read my soul….. She can’t figure how the 2 helped. She eventually mucks and I rake a small pot. The only reason I even mentioned this hand was because it was funny to me how she tanked for so long with the stare down, questions, etc.
- Villain is very LAG. Been at the table for a few hours but we have not tangled much yet. He appeared to be getting ready to leave, already put his chips in the rake. He is in early position and bumps it too $16. I look down at JJ in late position. (I hate JJ…..) Make the call hoping to hit the set. Heads-up. Flop brings QJ8. Sweet. Villain leads out for $30. I call. Turn bring a 9. Villain check. Now there are some straight possibilities. I put another $30 out there. Villain calls. River is an A. Villain checks. I’m not liking this board at all. I send another $25 into the pot thinking I’m done if he comes over the top. Lucky he calls and turns KK and I sweep the pot. Last bet was kind of dumb but it worked out in the end.
I wish there was more interesting hands, but after a 12 hours session, they all run together. Finished up ~$400. Felt pretty good with my play. There were times that I was a little too LAG and other times I was a complete DONK but I was able to adjust my play to the table pretty well.
I will say MGM is a great place to grind out the 1-2. Every type of player sat down, from tourists playing their first hand, to IPOD/sunglass wearing dudes, (Are you still allowed to say dude?), to local rocks… Easy to spot and play each one accordingly.
Quick room review, Management – 4, electronic sign-in was nice. Waitresses – 4, only slowed down when the room was full. Competition - 3, can definitely grind out a profit. Comps – 3, I believe I earned $10 on my 12 hrs of play. Room – 4, large room plenty of action, chairs OK, auto shufflers nice, marble rail doesn’t bother me.
One last story before I head of to the WSOP – Event # 2, Day 1B. As I mentioned in an earlier report, this is my first solo trip. So I’m at Sirrico’s in NYNY eating a slice of pizza, (been on the carb diet so I was really jonesing for a slice) when this hot blond walks by the table. Being a male of the species, of course I take glance. She looks, we make eye contact, she smiles, I smile. She does a quick u-turn, and hands me her card then keeps going. Turns out she is a “Professional Escort”, I guess that’s what they call it now. I’m used to seeing them on the street but not inside the casinos. The funniest thing to me was her “name”, Bunny Love. I just had to laugh. Anyways, I keep her card incase any of you degenerate AVPers need her number. Just PM me.
