just returned from venetian yesterday. as you know the desk has a check in where you register for games. the name go up on a screen and then the player is called off the list. during the last trip i had registered for the omaha 8 game, waited an hr and then was called, when i went to table-no seat, informed desk "sorry. you re 1 on the list" waited about 15 min -now i m 2 on the list! bogus explanation given for this. wont bore with details. after about 30 min a new table forms and am called. game begins but then find out its a must move table to the first game. only now im sixth on the new list to move. i had to raise hell with 3 people until the manager finally stepped in and moved me back to 1 on the transfer list-which is written on paper and carried by the staff. as near as i can determine there seemed to be a list of mostly local players which can get a seat off of this list, irrespective of their status on the board. maybe im just paranoid, but i wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience. afterall why have a posted board if you are not going to follow it. other than this THE GAME was very juiced with lots of action. highly recommended.

  1. I'll take a minor league swing at this, because I think I see what may have happened.

When you walked in and got on the original list, there MAY have been someone who had called in from their hotel room in the VVV and been placed on the list 10 or 20 minutes earlier. Their name would have appeared in a different color than those who were physically in the room when they placed their name on the list. Once that person comes down from their room and "checks in" with the brush, their name then becomes "active" and the color you see on the monitors becomes the same as everyone else. They maintain their position on the list from when they "called in" and the position on the list does not change to a "new position" when they check in. Effectively, they signed up for the game from their room, but aren't considered "official" until they actually show up. So while they were actually signed up for the game before you, it may not have appeared that way to you as you looked at the monitor. And if you ask the brush where you are on the list, they would not have counted that guy still up in his room until he came down and checked in. They might have said "yes, you are number 7 on the list," but as soon as the call-in players actually showed up you may have dropped to number 10 on the list. It is a bit confusing, but its actually not a local getting special treatment; its a guy staying at the VVV in most circumstances. I have called in for the 5-10 game lots of times like this. I've actually called in to get my name on the list, while walking towards the room from the Bellagio to be honest so I am not sure if "calling in" is supposed to be restricted to hotel guests or not.

Regarding the must move tables, I know what you mean. Its a little hectic as the floor comes over and places everyone on a list to be moved. But believe me, these guys at the VVV are really good at the must moves. They generally just take seat numbers and try to be as fair as they can, but keep in mind the are also juggling 4 or 5 players who want table changes at the same time, plus the steady stream of new players at the must move table, plus people wanting seat changes at the must move table. In the 2-5 games, it pretty much sorts itself out as so many games are being started mid-day when this is generally an issue that you will usually only have a few people moved before YOUR table becomes permanent and another table is opened as the Must Move. Organized chaos, and I don't have a clue how they keep as good a track of all of the moving parts as they do to be honest. But thats all the experience I have with these at the VVV.

Now if you want to see some home cooking on the list, I suggest you take a stroll over to the Bellagio. Once you do, you will likely be bringing flowers and candy back to the staff at the Venetian. I seriously believe the floor personel to be the absolute best in Vegas. No disprespect to any of the room managers and staff who post on AVP who may be just as attentive, but the VVV is a big room and have a LOT going on with their floor people most of the time if you are watching them. They always seem to get it right. And if FAIRNESS is a barometer for the quality of your staff, then I give them the highest marks.

  2. One of the desk ladies at the V thinks I am someone else. She calls me by name, not my name though, gives me a big hug etc treats me like a rock star and bam right to the top of the list, immediate seating.

I don't have the heart to tell her I am just Joe not the person she thinks I am.

  3. I'll second (or third) the props for V management. Just back home from a long LV weekend w/the wife and some other couples. Only one other poker player in the group, so not a lot of time at the tables, but we did stay at the V and I played in the 12p $150 tourney on Sunday w/~100 runners. The rest of the room was pretty full w/cash games and they did a great job of moving our tourney along, making good floor calls, while juggling the cash games and kicking off the 7p tourney while ours was still in in its finals levels. Also, very prompt to support the chip-chop agreement when we got to the final five, which from other posts, I assume is not the case in all of the other rooms. Oh, and I did take advantage of the hotel guest call-in sign up on Friday. Great all-around management!

  4. I've had the exact same thing happen to me. It was a shorter older lady. She bumped a guy up to the top of the list. He was a regular who I've seen several times that had left the O8 game to play NL and while he was playing he tipped her a couple bucks and she moved him up. I raised hell and they moved him down. She totally lied about the whole situation saying he said he was on the list before and his name got dropped which was BS since I saw him leave the O8 table 45 minutes earlier. After the fiasco, she went and talked to him again, I was too far to hear it but it seemed like she told him she couldn't do it. It has really soured me on the Venetian that they allow this. I only play there becuase they consistenly get an O8 game going.
