Arrived Friday around noon. And my first goal was to play in a 2:00 P.M. Tournament. Decided to play in the Tropicana tournament. Only 10 signed up, paying only one place, so it was really a sit and go. If I had known this I probably would have picked another room for a sit and go. Finished Fifth. Yes, and if I had finished first, I would not have minded only one table. But really wanted a multi-table tournament. The dealers were fine, management was friendly. So I agree with most of the commentary on this room. It has its limitations.

Was staying at Mirage. Played the 3-6 limit. I did not do well first night. I might have to re think strategy and concede that I might not have a clue how to play limit poker. Playing premium cards in position did not work at all. Maybe the thing to do is play a few junk hands and win big pots when the flop hits vs. Big pair/good kicker. So first night I lost 175.00, but I really liked the room. There was only about a minute wait. They readily created new tables, and the managers were friendly and approachable. (Service across the board was excellent at the Mirage, from room service to housecleaning to bell desk everything was prompt and courteous i.e., the way it should be)

Saturday morning, played in the early Paris Tournament. It drew 27 players. I finished 10th. Top 4 paid. Room was a little sliver between a bar and sports book. Dealers were very friendly and relaxed. There was one old crumudgeon of a Manager ,that barked instructions and really needed to lighten up a bit. The dealers stayed in good humor and tended to kind of ignore him and kept the tournament running smoothly. Saturday night played a couple of hours again at Mirage and won $7.00 for my efforts.

Sunday, Got an early start and wanted to play at Venetian. Had to wait over an hour for the 4/8 game to have enough players. But there was a nice lounge to watch football in. Played 2 hours, was up and down, and ended up down $13.00. Loved the spacious room.

I guess my dilemna is that I am still on East Coast time when I am in Vegas for the just the weekend. And early hours, sometimes hard finding the ring game I want... But I also do not want to wait hours to play when too busy. I think I will resolve this by in the future playing multi table tournaments early in the morning and then switch to cash games in the afternoon.

So all in all, did not do as well as my last trip, but I had fun and played the rooms I wanted to play in. Going back in February staying at South Pointe. Planning on doing a variety of rooms again. I have not done the Planet Hollywood tournament yet and am going to try the Wynn.

  1. I'm glad to hear that the Paris poker room is still attracting around 27 players in their morning tournaments during December. Do you think they get about 40 players in their afternoon tournaments?
