Carbon, bovada, other online sites
If online poker is supposedly illegal then how come sites like carbon and bovada are up and working? Im just curious because I recently started playing and want to know before I make my small fortune if I'd actually be able to withdraw any money?

I have no idea how any of those guys are still in business, but I would strongly encourage you not to play on any of them for the exact reason you mentioned. There is no way your money is safe, because it's only a matter of time before they either screw the players or the government shuts them down. Don't risk it. All of my friends that play online on these sites constantly complain about the issues with getting money on and off. Seems pretty obvious that the legal sites will have them shut down soon if the government doesn't do it on its own.
I'm with GameChanger here. I've heard a lot of horror stories with sites like Lock and others. I Recommend playing live, or accepting the fact that there is a huge risk of losing your money if you play on an unregulated site. You should also pay attention to your state laws to determine whether online poker is even legal.
Ive tried bovada and cashed out and got my check in like 3 days after requesting the withdrawal. I've cashed out on carbon and it took longer about 3-4 weeks. Didn't have any problem depositing the checks just takes a day or 2 to clear. Thats not to say they couldn't get shut down, its just to say that I havent had any issues and I've been playing for about 6 months now and know other players that have been playing longer..
It's only a matter of time before those sites get shut down. The only reason the Dept of Justice went after PS/FTP/AP only was to send a statement. As more states pass regs, the crackdown will happen - it's only a matter of time. Hoke's right - it's like poking a wolverine. Eventually, you're gonna get your hand bitten off. That makes it hard to deal cards. Which would suck. A lot.
Players have been on there a long time. It is scary that it could be shut down any time but at least Bovada is paying quickly. Much more reliable company if something goes down.
They're breaking the law with the money transfers - it's that simple. Don't keep a lot of money on there because when the DOJ snaps them off, it's going to get ugly.
