I visited 9 Dragons last night, which was a Saturday around 10 p.m. It's located in a small, out-of-the-way strip mall with limited parking.
Upon entering, I was met by a security guard who gave me a full-body pat-down. Not just a metal detector, wanding, or bag check, but a frisking!
The space is divided into two, with 10 poker tables on one side and an assortment of table games on the other. No poker games were running, but the baccarat and blackjack tables were very active. If you're surprised to see baccarat and blackjack in a Texas Social Club, then don't be, as more and more rooms are starting to offer them. As in other states, like CA and FL, the games are "player-backed," and like those states, it's a third-party company, usually owned by the cardroom, backing those games.
Custom poker chips are a nice touch. Hopefully, 9 Dragons can survive in the mature Houston poker market.
