River Rats Poker Club

I have played all over Houston in the past two years. Basically, Houston is home to "strip mall poker," which is so odd to me. The poker club next to the ladies lingerie store next to the Korean BBQ joint. Aura and ambiance are two words I have never associated with Houston-area poker. ... and then I discovered River Rats in late July. Wow. It's like a scene out of the movie Rounders where there are games played in unique locales. This club is GORGEOUS. And while I appreciate a pleasing aesthetic as much as the next degenerate, this place is next level. Upstairs from a beautiful restaurant on quaint, cute downtown Navasota, it has beautiful dark hardwood walls and floors. It's like something out of an old western movie saloon. I would love to live in one of the apartments in downtown Navasota, and gosh darn it I just may someday. But for now I'll have to settle for a few times monthly making the drive up from Cypress to visit the only poker room in two years where I can say the owners, dealers and fellow players are now my friends. I knew none of them two months ago. But these people truly understand customer service. This is a mom and pop, boot strap business run by salt of the Earth people. And where else can you play poker with an 82-year old motorcycle riding veteran nicknamed Roadkill by his own mother? That's right. Only here at River Rats Poker Club. Time to upgrade from your strip mall poker experience to something much more elegant and mature. And maybe you'll run into me there. Take heed: If I am wearing an orange or purple shirt, that means I am truly ready to gamble. Oh who am I kidding. I am always ready to gamble, regardless of the hue of my shirt! Boom Shaka Laka!
