11 nights @ The Wynn (LLNL- Long report)
I arrived at the Wynn with my wife and son at midnight on 05/02. I was way to tired after a long day to start playing cards so I decided to get some shut eye and begin my quest the next day.
This was my first time playing at the Wynn and everything was top notch. I had booked the poker rate and swiping in and out was easy and being able to watch the wait list from the room was money.
I sat down at a $1/$3 table with $300 behind. I played these stakes and bought in for the same the entire trip. My first session was my worst in terms of my play. I flopped TPTK in a 5 way pot and when it got to heads up I pushed all in when I put the villian on A/10 vs my A/K. Well, I was wrong. He flopped a set of 6's and I tipped my cap and left after I donated the remainder of my $300 buy in.
From there on out things ran pretty well for me. I won $200 on my next session that same night when I played TAG and QQ called my AA down to the river.
The no max buy- in was never an issue for me over my 11 days of play. Once in a while a local would come in for 20K buy would play 2 hands in 2 hours then leave. One gentleman who did so was very well dressed (circa 1978) but he was extremely cordial and a pleasure to be at the table with. I saw the same faces every night at the Wynn.
I got snapped up in a hand one night against Noli Francisco (of WPT fame). I flopped a str8 with a spade draw on the board and came out firing but when the turn brought another spade, Noli came out firing. At this point it was a re-raise or a fold. I dumped my str8 and decided to battle another day. Noli said he had the same hand (6/8). Who knows. That hand only cost me about $75 and after that I caught a heater and felted the guy to my right twice in about 30 minutes and then felted the kid to my left after I turned a str8 and cracked his flopped 2 pair. The $480 I won on that session was my biggest single session profit of the trip.
On about Day 8 a woman who looked just like Anna Nicole Smith (complete with Texas accent) sat down next to me. Half the table had lost focus because they were just totally eyeballin her to death (me included to an extent). I doubled up when I flopped top pair/nut flush draw and decided to fire away. A kid to my right made his K high flush on the turn and he got sick to his stomach when I re-raised him another $120 after he popped it. He made a crying call and paid me off. Thank you.
I gave a little back the next day session when a guy who had just got felted moved all in ($100) after a flop of Q83 rainbow and Im holding AQ. I called and he showed KK. That stung but it was just a minor setback.
On my second to last night I played patient for 2 hours and was about even until this hand played out........I'm in late position with A8 suited after calling a $12 preflop raise with 4 callers. I flop the nut flush draw and the original raiser fires $60 at the pot. At this point Im very bored and have been playing REALLY tight thus far. I decide to make a move. I make it an additional $120 to go. The guy to my left from Canada who is dressed to the nines calls my $120. This makes me scratch my head a bit. The original raiser shakes his head and mucks his hand. I turn my flush and immediately go all in. The guy to my left agonizes for a minute before he calls and I take down a nice pot.
Finally on my last night my buddy drags me to MGM (which I knew from AVP was a nice place to play on weekends). I jump in the $1/$2 and tread water for about 30 minutes before I flop a str8 and immediately push (based on the flush draw on the board and the plethora of calling stations at my table). Some fish calls and my hand holds up. I win another big pot about 3 minutes later when a different fish calls of all his chips with an A/rag. I cash out $330 and head back to the Wynn desperate for sleep.
I was +$1,200 for the trip (including 13 small sports bets). I got a $50 food comp from the Wynn and my room was the nicest hotel room Ive ever stayed in and the staff was excellent. I also drank about 45 Captain Morgan and diet Cokes. Burp. I will be back.
Another money positive trip, gotta love 'em! The power of live games v tourneys should really be coming apparent, especially to me!
