1st WSOP - WOW Part 1
This is a rewrite of my part one, I didn’t save it and I need to take some notes next time I play in a tourney.
My business’s main season is in the summer so I normally would never dream of being gone in June or July but with the horrible economy I had the opportunity to pull away for a few days and get rid of that bucket list item of playing in the WSOP. My wife and I drove the 11 hours from central Colo but I just missed the 2pm deep stack on Saturday and registered for the 6:00 $185, with plans to play in event 54, 1K nl the following day. 2nd hand, folds to the button who raises I wake up with AK in the sb, reraise to 450. Flop A J X I check, button bets 1k I raise to 3k. Turn is Q I feel sick, bet 3500 she shoves I make a horrible call she turns over JQ, J on the river for a boat, I’m done in 2 hands. Go buy into the next days WSOP 1k, have serious buyer’s remorse after my great start, but this is what I came to do.
Everyone thinks the short 3k starting stack requires you to take some chances early but with the 60 min levels it still played deeper than anything I’ve ever played. I played super tight and wanted to stay away from flips early. I folded quite a few small pairs when out of position or to raises. I did manage to hit one set early and player folded to my check raise on the turn. Not sure of the pros to my right, but Steve Danamin ? came and spoke to the guy to my right for a while and Shaun Deeb came over to see the player on his right. Two hands with that player. He raises on the button (50/100) to 250, I call from the bb with 79. Checks around on the flop 5,6,J? blank turn small bet , 8 on the river small bet by me is called he mucks I believe 2 pr. Later I raise with KK he reraises, I push he tanks a bit and calls with QQ and gets tabled. My other big hand was a luck box. Getting a bit short, raise and call, I push with AQ on a terrible read, he tables KK. A on the flop I get healthy. Scott Davies came over to say hi and get his $. I backed him in the main event. If you haven’t read his blog it is a great read. (Scott’s poker Blog Miamicane). I giant stack gets moved to the table two to my left which shuts the table down some. I would like to take a double up shot but never get the right situation. ( he makes the final table) After dinner break I haven’t had any good hands or good situations and dropped below average. They hadn’t updated the board in a while and when it dropped from 1200 players to suddenly under 900, I thought I may have a shot at cashing. (had to get to 242) After midnight I get moved to another table, getting short. Big stack to my right 20 from the money. 500/1000 100 ante (I think) I’m sitting on just 7k in the sb. Folds around to the button, he shoves. Obviously he thinks I can’t call and risk bubbling, peak down and find JJ insta call. He turns over 94 off, 9 on the flop, blank, blank. Few hands later we’re hand for hand, then the “players you are all in the money” announcement which was cool. Over $1,800, soon after we bag up for the night I’m sitting at 16,600. Table draw on day 2 gives me Alexander Kravenchinko with 145k in chips along with the #1 seat having 140k. (hint, I will outlast them both, lol) Part 2 posted earlier follows my deep run. Great time!
Cool...playing in the main event is on my bucket list.
