20-22 at the Imperial Palace, harrahs, caesars, treasure island
I wanted to give a quick report to give Imperial Palace some credit for really showing me a good time. I consider myself an average player and while the level of play was not really that great, the dealers were very friendly, the drinks came as fast as you wanted them, and the room is up to date with nice computer systems and waiting lists. The noise of the casino is quite loud.....which I actually like, but I could see some people not liking it.
I stayed at the IP because a friend of mine planned the trip and he looks for the cheapest way possible. We got unto town around 10 a.m. on wednesday and jumped into a 1-2 NL game and waited for the noon tournament. The 1-2 game was actually quite decent with people playing respectable poker. At noon we got into a 60 dollar tournament with 26 players and I placed 3rd. My friends and I then went to Harrahs and played in the 3:00 tournament there with around 30 players. I again squeaked into the money with a 4th place finish. I then proceeded to go out with my friends and spend the money drinking and partying before ending back at the IP at 2:00 a.m. This was easily the worst group of players that I played against and ended up making $300 in 2 hours before finally going to bed. I would have loved to stay longer, but I was drunk, tired, and couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.
Thursday was spent at Harrah's in a 1-2 no-limit game and then back to IP for a 1-2 No-limit.
The games were mildly profitable, but VERY frustrating. I would like to say this to all the wanta-be poker pro's. DON'T COME TO THE IP AND HARRAH'S AND THEN CONTSTANTLY CRITICIZE THE "AMATUER" PLAYERS! I was trying to keep the tables loose and fun and for a great portion of my day we had a couple of a-holes that were really being rude to several of the other players at our table. Yes....they were not good players, but they understood the proper procedures and caused no problems! I really got tired of the "poker pros" ridiculing them for calling a $10 pre-flop bet with 4-8 suited and then hanging on to get a flush to beat whatever "quality" hand they had. These are lower tier games that most players are just trying to have a good time and try to get lucky......if you want to be a pro....go to the top rooms and let some people have some fun. If you want to come take advantage of the fish....more power to you....but please SHUT UP!!
I enjoyed poker rooms at Caesars, and Treasure Island late into Thursday night, but I can honestly say that I had the most fun at Imperial Palace. They have attractive waitresses and WITHOUT QUESTION they were the most prompt at bringing drinks and the dealers were great. (the free cookies are a nice touch as well) I left vegas ahead about $800 and with a great deal of respect for the tiny little poker room at Imperial Palace. I have played almost exclusively at MGM for the past 5 trips, but my cheapskate friend opened my eyes to the fun of the Imperial Palace.
Thanks for the report, sounds like a good time!
I'm at the IP for a conference in a couple of weeks and will definitely be playing based on all the reports of late!
I agree. I have always had a good time at IP. Not always the best casino action, but fun people looking for a good time. We are heading down end of April and I have IP at the top of my list to saty at. Hopefully their prices will come down by then..
You are absolutely right....
If you are an accomplished player, it is tempting to play at a lower limit game to hunt some tourists and fish. Remember though: There is a reason they don't play like you (they are amateur beginners) and you will get sucked out of a good hand or two...ACCEPT IT AS THE RISK of going after the "easy money." Grin it and bear it, and JUST SHUT UP."
But as human nature is, those type of people love to berate as a means to be able to vocalize what they think they know..
I think the better players that are so sure in their logic that their bet or raise will not get called should not be surprised when they get sucked out on by lesser players. The surprise of getting beaten by a two-out is what normally turns into rage directed at the person that just sucked out on them. I play nolimit SNGs about once a week and their is one guy I consistently see berating lesser players that suck out on him. I will let you guys tell me if what I pulled on him was a suckout or not? I had limped in with K9h and flop came Kc Xh Xh (X being rags). I checked and Angry Guy bet the pot and I reraised all-in. AG instacalled AK offsuit and no chance of a flush. When he saw my top pair and 4flush his face went clenched. Turn was another heart and his face was as red as that card. He berated me for making a stupid all-in move and since I had him covered he was OUT. Did I suck out?
I agree. IP is a lot of fun. I, like you, really dislike the 'pros' who talk a bunch of crap to the fish. I'd never berate a player who I felt like I could beat with 1/2 way solid play.
