9 days in Vegas (long)

I landed on the 2/9 after a 15 hour flight. I did the $20 front desk trick and that got me upgraded to a stripview Go-room at Flamingo.
I choosed Flamingo mainly because the excellent location and the beautiful poolarea. Little did I know I was only going to spend 20 minutes swimming during my whole 9 day stay...

Minutes after I unpacked my stuff I went down to the FLAMINGO pokerroom for some 1-2NL. About 3.5 hours later I was up $467 and stumbled up to my room for some well deserved sleep. The Flamingo pokerroom as well as the whole casino is pretty worn down and the waitresses has prob been there since the Bugsy days. They did bring the drinks quick though. The scent that they sprey out in the air to remove the smoke made me sick and I wouldnt recommend the place if it wasnt for the soft competition.

The 2nd day I woke up early and went shopping at the Premium mall. Later I played at Treasure Island were I bluffed off my chips and busted early in a $65 tourney. TI room seemed ok.

Later at night I went to Mirage and played cashgame. I have basically no prior experience in live poker. I sat down at a 1-3NL table and after a while i realized that this was a much tougher table than the day before. Online I table select very carefully and altough I knew it was a tough table I stayed (pride/tilt). I played really bad and got unlucky a couple of times and left that table about -$700. I sat down at another table close by and things started to go better. It was a great table! After a couple of hours there were 5 of us with 400bb+ stacks, all due to the fact that on my right there were a very rich mexican lawer that kept paying off and rebuying. Money wasnt a problem for him obv.
I turned my losing session into +$200 and was just about to leave when this happened:
I was in the BB with about $900 when the HJ (with a 700 stack) opens to $15 and the rich mexican shoves his $800 stack!!!! I had seen him do these extreme preflop overbets before, often with air but sometimes with AA, AK. I took the scared approach and folded my QQ. HJ called with JJ and rich guy won with ATo when the Ace hits on river.
No one at the table beleived me when I said I folded QQ preflop but I think I did the right thing even considering his huge shoving range. I brought with me a $6k BR and didnt want to risk 15% on 1 hand vs him especially kowing I could take his money safely later with the board out there?

Oops, this is getting too long so I will post day 3 and more later

  1. Good start to your report.

I look forward to reading the rest.

  2. I think you made the right decision to fold those Queens. The HJ could have AA or KK then you would be a big underdog.

Did you take his money later on?

  3. That's not long

  4. That's what a girl I dated in High School said!

Hey, it may be short but at least it's thin.

  6. I agree with your fold. QQ against 2 all ins isn't exactly the nuts, you know that there are some over cards lurking out there and it only takes one as you saw.

  7. Can you all please explain in detail the $20 trick when checking into a Vegas hotel. I am coming back again to Vegas in March. We are staying at the Flamingo. What is said and how do I pass the $20 to the person checking me in? I would like some of the experts to help me step by step to get an upgraded room.

for a pretty thorough treatment. I always ask for a "complimentary upgrade." If you have specific rooms to ask for, the better (e.g. Tower Deluxe at Mirage or Penthouse at TI).
