A**holes at the Bellagio
Don't have a lot to say about the trip--played mostly 4-8 limit for a total win of about $350, plus a little 1-2 no limit for total win about about $200. Vegas was pretty slow with not a lot of tourists around on a Sunday-Tuesday stay. However, here is the highlight of the trip:
Was playing 4-8 at Bellagio, had been there about 1 1/2 hrs when this situation came up. I had ran to the bathroom and came back to find I had missed both blinds, so I had to post $6. At this point, I am going to call a raise with any two cards without looking. Maybe that's a bad strategy but who knows. Anyway, a tight, losing player raises it up from 3rd position, I call in the dark. Just me and him to the flop, which comes 3-4-5 with two spades. He bets and I check my cards: 2-6 for a flopped straight. I call. Turn is a 9 of spades. He checks, I have no spade but still figure to have the best hand. I chek anyway. River is another spade and we check it down. He has AKo with no heart and I take the pot. A stream of swear words starts coming from his mouth when he sees my 6-2. I NEVER criticize someone else's play, ever. It's just bad for the game, so I ignore him and he shuts up after a few minutes and the game continues. About 20 minutes later I hear him still talking shit about me to someone next to him who obviously doesn't care. Eventually I take a stand. "Excuse me, sir but is there something you would like to say to my face? Do you have some kind of problem with me?" He says "I don't have a problem with you, I have a problem with your cards. Are you trying to put me on tilt?!" I tell him to mind his own business and worry about his own business, and he starts berating me about how he only made one comment, blah blah blad. Who cares. Guys like that are bad for poker but GREAT for my rate of return.
I hear ya. There are so many crybabies out there. Recently I called 'time' on a guy cause he was taking waaaay too long to call an all-in. A minute later he's talking to his buddy next to him and refers to me as a 'dick-head'. The dealer told him to zip it.
If anything that guy should have been thanking you for not betting out on the turn and river!
I'm surprised that you were the only two in the pot pre-flop.
Bet the turn. Please for the love of God bet the turn.
@McThrila
Let me get this straight .... you "figure to have the best hand", but you didn't figure you could easily be outdrawn here? Bet the turn here.
@psujohn
That made me laugh out loud.
the pot was small, i was a bit inebriated and wasn't exactly employing my usual laser-like focus. Sue me.
Many times people get sooo upset and they blow things way out of proportion. You need to remind people that this is only 4-8.
Ps...I read the post because i thought you were referring to the Bellagio staff as ###holes. LOL - but we already have plenty of those.
@psujohn
Even for the love of Allah, please bet the turn.
Seriously though, since you were drunk, ya' should've 3-bet him in the dark preflop. Raised him in the dark on the flop. Looked at your hand on the turn and BET IT!! Then, check the river. Hilarity will ensue!! (at least for you as you drag the pot)
this line is the nuts.
