Caught Up In Poker Explosion
Arrived in Vegas on Monday 5/9, waited an hour for my bag to get off airplane. Stayed at Harrahs, was upgraded to junior suite after telling desk clerk my luggage story. Already getting deal through Travelzoo newsletter, so it was a good deal made better.
Went to Aladdin early morning 5/10, signed up for morning tournament, then decided to play some 1/2 NL. Bought in for $100 to start. Man to my right raised EVERY pot to 15 or 20 bucks, limiting my play. (Somewhat frustrating, reason why I like to play limit at this point). Maybe won small pot, but didn't do much before table broke down. Moved to other NL table and started having better luck. Luck turned when I picked up JJ, raised, got a caller. Flop came A10A, player before me bet, I called. Turn came A, I figured player before me had a ten, moved all-in, he called, turned over K10. Four outs (last ace, three kings) and of course, a king on the river! Lose another $60, leave poker room for a while to get breakfast before tournament. Last 45 minutes in tourney, decent players, just couldn't get cards.
Walked to MGM and sat down at 2/4 limit table. Nice atmosphere, great table, both solid players and tourists. Took down my share of pots. Lost with pocket QQ when opponent slow played pocket KK. Drink service was good, played in middle of day, so didn't get full experience of bar next door. If I go back anytime soon, this is the poker room I play at.
After taking a break to regroup, ended up at Bally's. Not a room, just a roped-off section of the casino. Again played 2/4 limit. Thought I had a big pot when 7-8-9-10-J showed up on board and I had Q, but another player had QK and took down pot. Lost remaining money as I had trip 9s while everyone else seemingly had the straight.
Wednesday morning 5/11 tried one more tournament at Stardust. In big blind with two low clubs (don't remember exact cards), no raise so I get flop for free. Three low clubs on flop. Made mistake by not going all in for remaining $1100 right then, only bet $500. Chip leader called. Queen of clubs is next card, he calls all-in. I'm forced to call, knowing I am beat. Sure enough, he turns over king of clubs. I shake my head continuously as I leave, waving off management when they offer 3/6 seat.
Losing definitely didn't help the experience. MGM was best room, followed by Aladdin. One note about Bellagio: MANAGEMENT? HELLO? Three different podiums, no signs, no help. I walked in, waited a couple of minutes, walked out. Room looked nice enough, managers needed to get their heads out of their asses.
