Celeb sightings and 4 days of poker.

Before leaving DFW we had our first celebrity sighting of the trip. We were waiting at our gate for the flight out and Carrot Top walked by. He stopped and talked to a few people around the gate then disappeared for a while. Just as they are announcing First Class boarding here he comes again and gets on the plane we are waiting to get on. We were standing next to him at baggage pickup in McCarran and he continued to talk with people that walked up to him.

My wife had managed to get us 4 nights comp'd at Paris. We get there and the clerk upgrades us to a Suite for nothing.

Tues

Bally's Lost $65 1/2NL with a tight table for about 2 hrs. Since 2AM Vegas = 4AM back home I turned in for the night.

Wed

Binon's 2PM $100 Tourney Big hand from the BB with Kd Jd got an all in from BB+3 and 3 callers including myself. Flop Ad 4d 5d for the Nut Flush. SB checked, I check, Villain pushes with a bigger stack. SB folds, I put on a little act for show and call all in. V shows A 9 for top pair. Nothing falls on the turn to even make it interesting. I pull in around 170K of the 345K in play. Still had 130K when it got to 4 handed with a 3 way pay. I figured it wouldn't be too bad to go ahead and go with the 4 way split ($448 ea) as my endurance beyond 5 hrs would be suspect since I'm still recovering from a MRSA infection.

Bill's lost $100 playing .50/1 NLH Yeah I went slumming and paid the price.

Thurs

IP early $40 NLH tourney. After playing in big stack tournaments I don't know why I bother with something like this. Busted out after about 45 mins and a $20 rebuy. Headed over to Harrah's for some cash game action, totally dead.

South Point Had to wait about 5 mins while they decided to open a new table. Made a little more than $300 playing with a fun group of regular and a couple of never played a live game types.

Mandalay Bay had a couple of tables going but I decided to pass. Luxor was the same.

MGM Quick seating 1/2 NLH. Found on V that could be pushed around with some big bets and he still would show hands after folding. Couple of times with AK suited and some straddles from the other end of the table pulled some good pots. Big hand pocket J, nothing in the flop so I bet out, got a call from the V in the 8 seat. Q on the turn, V bets out with a large bet. I stop and think for a little bit and go all in on the V. He took about 2 mins to think it over and folds showing AQ. Got him to lay down the best hand, he seemed to be a push over when you applied pressure. Finished after a couple of hours up over $300.

Friday

Bellagio Immediate seated for 1/2NL at a table that had lots of cash sitting on it. First hand had to post $2 even thou I was BB+2 to come in and find myself with Jh 10h. Flop comes Kh Qh and blank. There was some $20 bets thrown out, I had to stay with that kind of draw. Turn comes 7h. I check the 2nd Nuts and get a $100 raise from 2 seats over, folds back to me and I pop it for all in, putting me $200 in the pot first hand. V questions me having hearts and calls. Blank on the river and I got flush vs. flush with the higher of the two to double up first hand. Got to see lots of money pass around the table for the next hour, this game played like a higher limit table. Ended up leaving just over +$100 for the session. Somebody pointed out Brad Garrett playing on one of the tables, word has it he had been playing all night long after a show over at the Trop.

Stratosphere Lost $200 playing 1/2 after having to wait 45 mins for a table. Couple of locals, one wouldn't let go of an issue with show one show all and a couple of young ladies that were very entertaining. It was a fun loss of $200. Went up in the tower for the first time and realized I do have a slight fear of heights, yet airplane travel doesn't bother me.

PH Seated immediately for some more 1/2NL at what appeared to be a fun table and it turned out to be just that. Guess I should have expected that since it was midnight on Friday. Not sure I like the new location of the "room" next to the Heart Bar, seems to be very noisy. Might be better if they moved the Poker room up to the Mezz. Played a couple of hours and came out with $25 extra. While waiting to cash in the chips I get some sob story from a lady with one red chip that she needs more to place a bet on a college football game. I'm weary of all kinds of scams while I'm in LV so I politely decline to assist her.

Saturday No poker. After getting back to the hotel about 3AM to sleep food and making checkout time where much higher on the priority list than poker. With the flight out in mid afternoon there just wasn't time.

Since I came in to town with $600 in my pocket and left with 1200+ I consider it a successful trip.

  1. Thanks for the report. I have been patiently waiting for about two weeks for a new TR. Cool celebrity spottings too.

How was the Suite at Paris?

How many entered into Binion's tournament? About 20?

  2. carrot top is NOT a celebrity...that is all

  3. @PhilMo78
Actually, I just saw Carrot Top at the Luxor last week. Celebrity or not, he's funny as hell. My face hurt from laughing so much, and the venue is small enough that there's no bad seats. I recommend his act.

I have heard at least 10 people talk about Carrot Top's act. Every single of them said they enjoyed it. I may actually see it one day.

  5. Maybe I misunderstood, when at Binions with both players in front of you all in and you holding the nuts......you put on a show? For who exactly? There was no action after you and no action could be taken after your call.
