It's a bit late to post- although it was a terrific trip holding only about 11 hours of cards. My fiancee and I were in vegas for my cousin's wedding and I don't care how many people say "its a dry heat" since it was flipping 117 degrees on that Sunday when my cousin was married.

Due to the festivities and the little lady by my side; I could only play poker in the wee hours of the morning (5AM to about 10AM). The deepstacks and WSOP seemed to get under my skin since I could see all this action but not play. I was staying at the Veneitian and clocked most of my play there (was at the Wynn but nothing exciting).

First sit down at the V was at 2-5NL. Sixth hand in I play a little loose calling a $25 pre flop raise on the button with 7c/8c. 3 callers (including big blind) and the flop comes 9c, 10c, Kd. Loving my straight flush draw but a little concerned with nothing but overs and a stonger draws then mine. Two checks to me and I fire $50 thinking I will scrape it in... the big blind calls me and now I'm pretty sure he's on a draw. Turn comes 6h and BINGO! He fires $125 and I push in... he insta calls and now I'm praying for no club and a low card for the river since he wasn't showing - so neither did I. River comes Ac and I thought I was done but then he flips over a set of K's and I scrape in about 1k.

Played for about 3 more hrs and the second to my last hand (after I got the call that my fiancee was wanting to get some food) I look down to find my cowboys and fire $50 pre flop in first position. I get 4 callers! I was a bit shocked since I was only playing tight after my early hit but it could have been that everyone realized I was about to leave. Flop comes 10,J,Q rainbow and I'm loving it! I fire $100, fold, fold and a call from the button. Turn comes 10h making the backdoor possibility of a flush since the Q was a heart but more concerned about a A/K and pocket pair that hit a set on the flop. I fire $225 and get a quick call and now I'm freaking out that I'm getting pulled into a moster. River comes my K (not a heart) and I fire $400 trying to get a call out of him but he then comes over the top with an all in. I have to call with only quads to beat me. Poor guy had 10/J and turned the boat- so sorry! He started shaking his head asking to himself why he didn't raise the turn. Kept on saying... sick, that's sick. I was quiet but I was shocked to hear another player say to the dealer that he should have pushed on the turn and the dealer was agreeing! Yes, I caught it on the river but that was a sick hand for him to call a $50 pre flop raise on 10/J and I probably would have gotten off my hand with a heavy raise on the flop and turn. I was thinking that a monster was out there but he allowed me to catch a bigger animal. I walked with about $3,500 and the little lady is loving me!

Next day (Sunday) I walk in and loose about 600 over 4-5 hours of play.

I have to mention that Vegas was paying NOTHING to slot players. Not that I play slots much (but with the fiancee we played together since she doesn't like anything else- or understand it I should say). Mirage, O'Shea's, Hilton, Bellagio, MGM, V, Palazzo, Caesar's, you name it... not once did we see ANYONE get paid out on a slot. Usually, you walk by someone waiting on a jackpot or getting paid out in bills - but during our entire stay not one person was paid out and the wedding of over 100 people nobody one a dime. Plus- it's pretty dead at most strip casinos. We could have rolled 5 bowling balls down the center walkway at the Bellagio on Saturday afternoon and not hit anything. But, the V was pretty packed all the time and so was the IP and O'Shea's (our favorite places until....)

2AM on Monday morning (after the wedding) we figured we get our last bets in and go to bed for a 10AM flight back to Chicago. My fiancee was having blast playing roulette and she did very well. We decided to throw down 200 a piece to play some nickle's at the Pallazo and I hit my first number (350 paid out) and I'm loving it! Well then came what has been known as th "anne show" (fiancee). Since I have 350 on a hit and took $50 to set aside- we are even on the table so we decided to play big. Old Girl hits her age (29) with 25 nickles on it!!! $875 thank you! She then takes $500 and puts it aside and begins. Yes- that was the beginning. She hits 5 numbers in a row with the last number having $50 on it! She looses about $500 from the winnings and I have no Idea how much she has. Can you say 6k???

We are up a staggering 10g's on the trip and with the room comped with the free blueman group tickets and the 400 in free play that the V gave me - we had a very nice trip! Best I've ever been on!

Side note. The one thing that ticked me off was at Planet Hollywood. I must mention this! We walked into the PH and was approached at the front door by what seemed to be a host. He asked if we would participate in a viewing of what the new hotel would look like and we would recieve a free show to Tony and Tina's wedding on Saturday Night. We passed but then he mentioned that an alternative was $150 in free chips or slot play. We said sure! He brought us over to a kiask where another rep (english guy) began taking down our information and telling us about the new hotel that looks like a 50's cadallac and they are trying to promote it for future patrons to visit once its completed. 10 minutes pass and a host escorts us to the second floor where an auction was going on and past it was a room with about 20 people are walking around - another kiask. We wait for about 5 minutes and another host began telling us that the presenation was 90-120 minutes long and that it was for a time share opportunity!!! I was irrate! I wanted to see a supervisor but told that nobody was avialable. They offered that I could fill out a complaint form and that the supervisor would contact me. I did and let that host know what a crappy bait and switch operation they had. You want to attract guests>>> well then don't lie to them!!! I completed the form, not calls. When I returned I sent an email to marketing at the PH and still no response. What a crappy place and I have told everyone about this at the wedding and back at home!

  1. @Saso
Then be of good cheer; there is news to brighten your day:

Consolidated Resorts Inc. and 13 affiliated companies filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy this week, seeking to liquidate the time-share companies...

Several places have always been really thick with nests of timeshare pests. PH is one, a walkway/mall area going from Luxor to Excalibur is another, and oddly enough the old Lady Luck used to have a ravenous pack of them set up inside the main entrance.

Your post reminded me of one of my more successful and fun brainstorms. About six or seven years ago I had a room booked at Lady Luck, and as I wheeled my bag from their garage across the street I remembered them and the fact that they had a lot of trouble with one syllable words such as “no.” I knew I was about be set upon by a bunch of them again as soon as I hit the door, and caught the eye of a ho patrolling the curb nearby. She wasn't a “working girl” or a “lady of the evening” she was your basic twenty-dollar ho. I ripped a five dollar bill, handed her half, and told her she'd get the other half if she saw to it that I got all the way into the joint as far as the casino floor and registration desk with no timeshare hawkers getting in my face. She did a fine job. “Don't you be be comin' over on my man or I'm gonna cut you biatch!...” I remember our three minute relationship fondly, and hope it was good for her too.

  2. Great report Saso and congrats on the HUGE cash! As for the PH issue we have been approached by these guys before as well and as a grizzled veteran I knew exactly what you were headed for and to be honest they could care less about your complaint. They know what they are doing but that is how they try to sell timeshares anywhere around the US.

  3. My uncle lives in vegas and I told him about the PH bait and switch... of course he went off because that's "his town." For those who know the type of person he is... a hint is that his self-motto is 'if you can't do it first class then don't do it at all."

He told me that a casino that doesn't respond to complaints is basically saying that they don't care about anyone. (which in my opinion- they really don't). But, the catch is that he knows some people over at the PH and was contemplaiting holding the wedding reception there for my cousin. He made a phone call to his host and they suggested that it was an ongoing issue (but its been addressed- LOL) and that the timeshare people are not technically employees of the PH casino, but rather, placed there from Westin who ownes the casino and the timeshare. If I wanted to escalate it (which I don't anymore) he told my uncle to contact Westin Corp offices- which my uncle was ticked off at since it happened in the casino and he feels that PH should deal with it directly. Manoman did I open a can of worms with letting my uncle know about this... and just for those who remember the 70's vegas (and earlier), my uncle couldn't stop saying how this crap would never had happened back then and that the corporate commercialized owners of today just killed the classiness of Vegas with standup practices, treating patrons with respect and appreciating all who visits the casino/hotel.

Just wanted to post this since I'm 33 and do remember some of the 'old time' casino/hotels that carried over into the late 80's and early 90's until the strip became disneyland.
