Easy on the Wallet, not so on the stomach!
Got to Vegas easy enough, checked in at the IP, and off to Bally's for some midafternoon poker. Table was ok, some bad players, some decent players. Won and lost a couple of small pots. One good one I have Q,Q in middle position. Raise it to $12 and only the big blind calls. Flop comes A,10,4, he checks so I continuation bet $15. He calls. Turn is a Q. He checks, I bet $40, he moves all-in for about $110 total, I beat him into the pot. River bricks out and he shows A,10 for flopped two pair that he slowplayed on the flop and I sucked out on the turn. He doesn't look happy, but if he bets or raises on flop I'm gone, so whatever. Ended the session up $105. Walked around for a bit, then went to the Luxor as it was super easy on my last trip. Me and a buddy played and I was up $109 after a couple hours. Can't think of much significant action on the table, but nobody jumped out at me. I will definitely play here again, usually easy tables at this casino. Last action of the night was late night at the IP. Actually wasn't doing to well, pretty card dead, but there was a drunk guy at the table with $400 or so and I wasn't gonna leave until he did. Eventually got up $90 after raising preflop, and then slowplaying a set of Aces til the river.
Slept in and then went downtown on day two. My buddy who I was with likes playing blackjack, and I guess some of the casinos downtown are good for that so we lowrolled at the El Cortez for a bit, I did not play there. Then went to the Nugget. I liked the poker room there, albeit it was on the crowded side, tables seemed too close together. More bad players here and I got good cards to boot! Made some nice bluffs, good plays, and hit some nice flops. One hand I'd like to see if anyone would have done different though, I think I may have left some money on the table. I call with 7,8 offsuit in middle position. Late position makes it $12. Two callers to me and I call ($48 in pot). Flop 5,6,9 with two diamonds, I have no diamonds. Checked around to the raiser who bets $20, one caller to me, and I make it $120 total. Don't want to let the flush get there and suck me out right? Both players fold. Was it too aggressive? Finish the session up $327. We gooned around downtown a while longer, got some deep-fried twinkies and oreos. Had a lot of beer, had the $1.99 shrimp cocktail, watched a light show then headed back down to the strip. Went to play at MGM for a bit. Have 8,2 offsuit in the big blind and flop is 8,2,5, two hearts. Small blind bets out $16. I make it $40. Only one caller, not the blind. What does he have here? Turn is J of hearts. I check, he fires out $50. I think for a long time, try and get a read on him, eventually decide he doesn't have it, and shove all-in for about $150 total. He thinks for like 5 seconds, and folds. Says he thinks I have a set. Oh well, I win either way. No cards coming after that for me, win a few lose a few. Leave up $98. One more late night session at the IP where I pick off another bluff when the guy who bets looks scared as all hell that I'll call him. Played bad early, but made enough to get back in the positive, $45. Trip going really good so far, not a loss!
Sleep in super late, wake up at like 3 in the afternoon. Walk around for a bit, do some souvenir shopping for the gf and the family at the Miracle Mile shops. Come back to IP for some poker. Some good hands on this one. I raise with KQ of hearts and get a couple callers. Flop is J,10,9 with 10,9 of hearts. I bet it all the way. Don't hit the jackpot but rake a nice pot. Lose with 10,10, vs Q,Q on an all under card board. Luckily I got the feeling I was behind and didn't go broke. Double up when I flop a set of Threes on a board of K,9,3, other guy has K,9. Ouch, just a train wreck hand for him, lucky for me! Little bit later get my best "play" of the trip. I have Q,10 off suit and limp in. Eight-handed to the flop of A,8,4. Checks around. Turn is a J. So I've got the double gut shot draw. I like these hands, very well-disguised if it connects. I bet out $10 into the $16 pot. One guy raises it to $26 total. No callers to me, I do the math, call $16 to win $52 plus he probably pays me off if I hit. I call. River is a brick, 3. I check, he bets $30. I start thinking, going over the action in my head, look at board, look at him, and he's giving me the stare. I love it when people give me the stare, nine out of ten times I find people are weak when they do that. I think about just calling, and legitimately think my Q high might be good. After more than a couple minutes I decide he's weak enough to fold to a raise. I make it $80 total. He thinks, cuts out the chips, and eventually folds. I show the bluff and he goes through the roof. Totally worth showing the bluff just for the entertainment value of his reaction. Now I obviously have to tighten up after that one, but it was totally worth it! End the session up $311. Then me and my buddy went to the Teahouse at the IP for their late night special. At the time it seemed ok but boy did we pay for that one the next day. Decided to get tanked and donk the night away at the IP 2/4 limit table. I had a great time doing it, unfortunately lost $140.
Woke up late the next afternoon feeling terrible. Thought I was just hungover so went for breakfast and tried to walk it off. No such luck, went back to the room to try and lie down for a while. My buddy walked around for a bit. He started to feel bad too and came back to the hotel. Won't go into all the details, but we took turns in the bathroom for a while. No good happening, we're both feeling like garbage. It's food poisoning. I've had it before and know the symptoms. We both got it. End up going to the hospital for help. We're pretty sure it was from the eggs the night before at the Teahouse, as they were undercooked. Partly our own fault for eating it, but we were far from impressed. And the person that takes care of Risk Management isn't there when we need to talk to someone. Very frustrating because now we have to deal with it over the phone from back home and hope something we'll get done. Talked to someone today and she said they're investigating it and will email us in two weeks. Very lame, and an unfortunately sour ending to what would've otherwise been a pretty good trip.
Finished the poker in the positive +$940 total. +$1080 if not for the drunken limit night!
