Excellant Adventure 8 - the OCHO
Michael invited three young impressionable EA groupies to join us on the Excellant Adventure. The three of them were SilentBod, Yappy Dave and Other Dave. When young people meet their heros, they can get very nervous. Hey I get it, I remember meeting Sam Grissel. So don't worry OD, just because you spilled your cool aid all over your shirt doesn't mean we think any less of you.
Our first stop is the Suncoast. I jumped into a 4-8 game. I don't think I have ever seen bigger pots in that game, $200, consistently. I lose $100 in about 45 minutes. After busting out, Other Dave is kind enough to point out that my head is shaped like a block. (Michael, lets refine our ride along screening process.)
On a different table, Mike and Yappy were playing 1-2 no limit. Yappy made a great play on a guy and it led to one of the dumbest things a player has ever said at a table. Yappy has 6-7. The preflop raiser makes it $15 to go. Three handed to the flop, J99. Yappy checks, the Villian bets $25, Yappy check raises to $75. The villian folds and Yappy shows the bluff. The Villian then says,"I can't beat luck!" To which Mike responds, "Yeah, flopping 7 high is pretty lucky." This was a well timed and well executed bluff that pushed a player off of a better hand. What the F**k was that guy thinking to call it luck?
The next stop was the Gold Coast. We got their at midnight. All five of us jumped into a new 4-8 limit game. To rate the action would be silly. It was five AVPers drinking, laughing and talking smack. We had a good time. so did the other five players. ALL FIVE OF US HAD TO REBUY IN LESS THAN A 1/2 HOUR. I lost $116 but had a lot of fun. Its a small room with not much action on a Tuesday morn at 1 am. The staff was OK.
Then we went to the Palace Station at 2am. Mike and I went to breakfast. All you can eat pancakes. I could only eat three, I am sooo out of practice. The other AVPers went to go bowling. We finished pancakes at 3am and went to the poker room. They had two full limit holdem games with a list. So we bailed. I have played there before. Mostly locals, so not great action. They are part of the stations group so the big Jackpot is in play there. But there biggest attraction is you can smoke after 12:30 am.
The final stop was Red Rock at 4am. I jumped into a 2-5 nl game. It was wild. A lot of $1000 pots. I turned $600 into $1420 in 2.5 hours. Mike won also. Yappy, OD and Bod joined us after the bowling special olympics. They got into the 1-2 nl game.
Red Rock is a stations casino. It has 20 tables. On a Friday or Saturday night, all the tables will be in use. You can find great nl action and good low limit action. The dealers are good and the floor people are experienced. The waitresses were fast. Its a well run room with good action even if its dominated by locals.
Having five AVPers made for a really fun night. We found a couple of wild games, Suncoast and Red Rock. Made some money. And helped some wide eyed young groupies fulfill their lifelong dream of hang out with Mike and I on the Excellant Adventure.
Now that I've published that we allow other poker players tojoin us on the Excellant Adventures, I'm sure our phones will be ringing off the wall with requests from the Make-A-Wish foundation.
See you on the river.
