Went to Vegas for the annual (3rd year) guys weekend retreat. I've played some poker in the past but this was the first time that I ever went with the serious plan of playing mostly cash games. I've played almost exclusively tournaments in the past and have finished in the money on some occasions.

I did play a couple tourneys at TI and made fourth in one with my friend chopping 3 way for first. I spent the vast majority of my time at MGM playing 1-2 NL. Played a wee bit at the Venetian where the waitresses had so much of my attention and the competition was reasonably competent at my tables. Was very annoyed by the fool with the big hat, sunglasses that covered half of his face and the oversized headphones. Does this really work for some people???

MGM was very profitable! I paid for my flight, hotel, cab fares, meals, booze, some food and booze for my friends, and covered my losses on football with my winnings at MGM. I had some nice hands and an occasional suck out but just generally some solid poker. Nice room, nice dealers, management changed several of the big screens over to the ESPN coverage of the Miss Hooters Swimsuit pageant, and plenty of drunken fish willing to part with their money. Although the music from the bar was a bit much, after a few hours it just blended in with the rest of the noise.

Can't wait for the next trip!

  1. Generally the 1-2NL game at MGM is one of the best to beat on the strip.
