First Timer-Low Limit games
This weekend I had my first trip to Vegas, it was a great time even though I did lose a bit.
Flew out of Minneapolis on Thursday morning, got to LV about 10 Vegas time and was at the Mirage about 10:30. We couldn't check in, so we checked our bags, got our players cards and headed to the poker room to play some 3-6.
I got seated right away and the wife had to wait for about 20 minutes to get her seat. Played for about 3.5 hours, I was running second best quite often at first and had to add 50 to my original 100, but ended up up 38 for the session.
We were finally able to checkin at 3 and because of the delay, we got $50 in food comps. So, we picked up a hot pastrami at the Carnegie Deli took it up to the room, had a late lunch and then took a brief nap.
After the nap we headed downtown to check out the light show and play some bj. Ran real well at the El Cortez and of course the canopy show is top notch! Of course, we had a Golden Gate Shrimp Cocktail which can't be beat for $2.
Headed back to the hotel about 1am and I hit the poker room for some more late night 3-6 action. I bought in for $100 and 2 hours later I cashed out at $207.
Friday morning we got up and headed over to IP for some Aces/Kings Cracked action at the 2-4 tables. We were a little late, so a table got started short handed, we started playing, players left the other 2 tables(cause the aces ended and they weren't interested in the kings) and the regulars complained and they took players from our table to fill the other 2. Seemed lame to me, but whatever. Played for a few hours and just couldn't hit and had a couple of big second best hands and ended up -76 for the session.
After that session we went to Chipotle and had some lunch, went to Caesers Palace to meet Pete Rose and then went back to the hotel and I hit the Mirage Poker room again while the wife went and explored the hotel. Played about even and hit quad 7's for $75, so cashed out at +64. Little did I know that was the last time I would cash out ahead.
Took a nap and then hit the Flamingo that night for Vinnie Favorito and some more poker. I was tired of Favorito after a half hour, it reminded me of HS lunch hour, case on friends, blah blah blah, tell some jokes man and get away from the easy rips that most people have heard a million times.
We hit the tables again, met some fine people from Calgary and proceeded to donk off 85 in 4 hours playing 2-4
Went back to the Mirage, couldn't get seated at 3-6, so I called it a night.
Saturday morning we got up and headed to the MGM tourney. I played the Tourney, the wife played 2-4. I finished 13th out of 52 there, so no cash in that one. I found the structure to be a bit aggressive, looking back on it, wish I would have played the Venetian or the Binions tourney.
After that we headed back to the Flamingo and played for about 4 hours, againg cashed out at -49, but it was very fun table. I invited several to my home game even!
Now, here's where it got ugly for me. We headed back to the Mirage and my wife decided to call it a night and I headed to the poker room for some more 3-6. Bought in for 100 and had to refuel once with another 60 and cashed out -121 ouch!
I would say that there were at least 8 hands in the 2 hours that I played that had $12 each preflop with people raising j5o and stuff like that. I would get queens and then get rivered every time. I should have just picked my chips up and went and played 1-2 nl if I was going to have to do the amount of folding I had to do in order to not donk chips. There was no room for speculation and I couldn't hit anything.
Didn't play on Sunday, went to the Hilton and watched football, met one of the Calgary guys over there and him and my wife proceeded to buy each other beer all afternoon and by the time games were over, I was pretty tired and I just went back and hit the sack for my trip home.
Had great time though overall, cant wait to come back!
If anyone has any questions, I'd be glad to answer. Tomorrow night I'll do some room reviews too!
