Holiday Trip to Vegas 12/30 - 1/04 by AC player
Stayed 5 nights at the MGM, in large part due to reviews and recommendations on this website.
MGM's room is lively and well run, however a heads-up for you fellow Atlantic City players: Many poker rooms in Vegas are not dedicated "rooms" as we are used to, they are areas set aside for poker. They are considered non-smoking but since smoking is allowed in all the casinos you can't get away from it. MGM is one of these rooms, it's actually an open area sandwiched between the sports betting area and a night club. The exception is Ceasar's, more about that in a separate review.
Another difference is many poker room tables have a marble or wood section around the interior edge of the table, not 100% felt, and most use automatic built in card shufflers. Very strange to anyone who is used to AC poker rooms.
Another key difference is that almost all the players are drinking - a lot! No hot chocolate or coffee. This is a good thing if you lay off the booze.
I played mostly at MGM including the 6PM $125 NL tourney 3 straight nights. It has 60 players pays 5 places. First night I made it to the final 5 and we chopped $6K five ways so I got $1,200. Third night I made it the final table but got knocked at in 7th so no money. We would have chopped 8 ways but some geek from North Carolina was the lone hold out.
I also played in a small $33 buy-in tourney at the Luxor and chopped with another guy for 1st and 2nd place $ and got $160.
When not playing tourneys played 1-2 NL cash games and finished about $200 up.
Played about 3 hrs. of 4-8 limit at the Bellagio and cashed out $1 up. Beautiful room, and hope to play more there in the future.
Caesar's new poker room is a poker players' heaven, plus it's a separate room apart from the casino and has a separate dedicated tournament room. My next trip I plan on staying there and play almost exclusively in that room.
