Honeymoon Poker :: 1-2 & 2-5 NL
We arrived Monday, September 4th at the MGM after a long day of driving from Colorado. We checked in and quickly proceeded to the poker room.
I've been to Vegas a couple times and the MGM has a done marvelous job with their poker room in comparison to other rooms on the strip. Tables were clean, and confortable. Dealers (most of them anyway) were friendly, and humorous. I only saw one dealer mistake during the four days we were there. Cocktail waitresses were friendly and quick. And, if service was slow, you could ask the dealer to request immediate service. I requested several table changes that were accomodated quickly.
The first day I was a bit tired and intimidated by the other players at the table (MGM). Most of them were highly aggressive (to the point of being reckless). Needless to say, I had to tighten up my starting hand requirements and play accordingly. Unfortunately, I was fairly card-dead and ended up breaking even on day one.
Day two, I went back down to the MGM and found myself at another highly aggressive table...ended up breaking even again.
Day three, however, was a different story. The table was tight-passive. I was able to play a variety of hands from all positions and steal, steal, steal. I turned my 100 into 500 in about 3 hours...not bad.
Day three in the evening we went over to the Bellagio and played 1-3 (I think). The room has a nice atmosphere, dealers were a little snooty. The competition was average (mixed table). It was fairly easy to spot the weaker players and exploit their weaknesses. I ended up slightly ahead after a few hours.
Day four we played at the Wynn. This is another very nice room. The chairs here are exceptional...very comfortable. I could have played for weeks straight (if I didn't require sleep). Nevertheless, this was the weakest competition of all my sessions. Everyone was very tight, and all played very straigh-forward poker...check when they misss, bet when they hit. I was able to pick up small pot after small pot and made a nice profit in a VERY short amount of time. Dealers were average. Cocktail service was lacking.
Overall, all three rooms were very nice. MGM, for me, takes the cake. Although the first two days were overly-aggressive, the MGM appeared to have the most tourist-type players (ATMs). I think I just got unlucky seating the first couple sessions.
I wish you all luck. Have fun!
