I am a low limit player -- the lower the better until I get some more live playing under my belt. Here are summaries of my poker room visits, in no particular order. For the weekend I ended up $307 ahead from 2/4 cash games, but lost $140 when I didn't make the money in all three tournaments I tried.

Excalibur--my (former) favorite place to play. In the past I've done well at their 1-3 spread game, where I look like quite the experience player compared to those I'm usually up agains. I went again looking for this 1-3, but it wasn't being offered at that time. So I settled for 2/4 standard limit. The dealer told me that they may be phasing out the 1-3 as not too many people are interested in it anymore. I placed 3rd out of 60 in their tourney back in January, so I wanted to try again. This time I busted out soon. They only give you T300 to start, and even though the blinds start small, you definitely feel the pressure early.

Ballys -- played 8 hours straight, the longest session I had. I was down about $100, but fought back and ended up $50 ahead after the 8 hours. Not a good hourly wage, but I was determined to come out with some profit. One dealer was being a little too flirty with a young hot female player (I'm a not-quite-so-young, sorta "lukewarm" female player) for my taste, but what ya gonna do? This young girl got into a bit of a catfight with another woman playing at our table, and changed seats 2 or 3 times. I think she got away with some behavior that other players couldn't because of her flirtation behavior. Kind of interesting to watch and I must say I was rooting for her to lose, but she was getting good cards for much of that time.

MGM--played a couple of sessions here, and tried my first 3/6 game. Players and dealers were very nice. I played extra tight at the 3/6 table, just because I'm such a cheapskate. I think I only won 3 hands in about an hour or so, but two were boats, and I did leave that table about $30 ahead. Nice room and management.

Flamingo--Played just a couple of hours at the most with a bunch of players ages 60+. They were pretty fun, but I wanted to move on. Ahead about another $30 here.

Luxor--Another shorter session, also made about $30. Nothing too remarkable to mention.

Paris--Played in a $45 tourney. I lasted about an hour, but just didn't get cards. I'm not an experienced tourney player at all (only the Excalibur one I mentioned earlier), so I didn't expect much. I think I read on this site that they are moving to all tourneys, no cash games, but they were offering 3/6 when I was there.

Treasure Island (it'll never be TI to me!)--I actually really liked this room. It's away from the casino, has an intimate feel and very nice staff. This month they are giving $2 per hour in food comp, which seemed pretty nice to me. I tried one of their tournaments, but got terrible cards and lost when I went all in with pocket nines only to be faced with pocket kings. I played two different cash sessions over two days, and came out ahead about $35 one time and $65 the other, not including the "splash pot" promotion that I won. This may be for September only, but once an hour during the weekday afternoons, they randomly pick a cash game table and an envelope containing promotional chips or slot play in amounts from $50 to $1000. Then they announce that the player that wins the pot on the next hand wins the envelope if the pot has at least $40 in it. I was dealt 5-3, and of course I would normally muck this, but everyone stayed in (even after a preflop raise) in hopes of winning the envelope. The flop came Q-3-something. Someone bet, and I called as well as a couple others. The turn was a 5. I bet and all but one dropped out. I forget the river, but I ended up winning with my two pair. The envelope contained a $50 promotion. So I stick around another hour and once again my table is called for the splash pot. I am dealt A K and raise preflop with many callers. Flop is K-K-3 with one diamond. Yee haw! It's checked to me on the button and I bet, getting two callers. The turn is another diamond. Check, check, and I bet. Both call. I'm praying to the poker gods that no diamond falls on the river, but alas, they must have been looking after the high limit players at Bellagio, because sure enough a diamond came. The guy UTG just starts to reach for his chips, then stops abruptly and checks. Right then I knew he got it. The second guy checks and I do the same. UTG guy couldn't turn over his cards fast enough to reveal the flush. I had to show my trip Ks with A kicker. He won $100 in promo chips, and I must admit to feeling pretty tilty. But I can't blame the guy for chasing, as the pot was quite big from all the preflop callers and of course the added incentive of the splash pot. Luckily, it was then time to head for my plane so I got out before I let myself play on tilt.

I am heading back to LV next Wednesday for another several days of poker. Maybe I'll use the confidence I gained from winning every session and tackle the 3/6 tables with a little more gusto.
