Las Vegas Visit of October 7th-12th
Hello all,
This report is more about my running around in Las Vegas than it is about poker. I DO plan on giving a detailed account of my NLHE tourney experience from the 8th of October as I have good notes on that event. I just need to iron out some of the grammatical issues with the couple of paragraphs I wrote. Again, it was a pleasure meeting and talking to LVM and TI Poker Danette. Thanks to the people at TI for making me feel welcome and I look forward to seeing all those I met again next year. Hopefully I’ll meet some of the other fine AVP posters then as well.
Until then,
Randy
Sunday October 7th
Arrive Vegas Around Noon
Rode the roller coaster at the Sahara
Pick up Blue Man Group Ticket
Visit TI and lose $40 at Roulette while almost losing digital camera as well by leaving it in the seat at the tables and not discovering it missing until putting the car in reverse in the parking garage.
Pick up Zumanity Ticket
Late Lunch at Mexican restaurant in New York New York
Check into Hard Rock Hotel and crash after unpacking
Zumanity show
Monday October 8th
Morning roadwork/jogging for an hour
Over to TI to enter 11 a.m. NLHE tournament-$65 buy in
During second break introduced myself to TI Danette and in turn got to meet Las Vegas Michael
Finished 5th in NLHE tourney (34 entries) and cashed for $122. As mentioned above, more details to follow.
Sat at the $1/$3 NLHE table with LVM and a few other players; high/low light here was getting schooled for about a $90 loss chasing a Queen high flush only to be bested by an Ace high flush
Dinner at ESPN Zone while watching the pre games for the baseball playoffs and Monday Night Football game
Over to Sahara for the Amazing Johnathon show (FUNNY stuff!!)
Tuesday October 9th
Morning roadwork for an hour
Breakfast at Hard Rock
Over to TI again for 11 a.m. tournament-same set up as previous day-finished 17th or 18th out of 35 and was basically card dead throughout the event.
Headed from there to drive out to Lake Mead Recreational Area and observed the low water levels there. Took the requisite tourist pictures and hiked around in various unknown locales
Early dinner at downtown Mexican restaurant
Blue Man Group Show
Watched the ‘freaks’ back at the Hard Rock exit the Cradle of Filth/Gwar show
Wednesday October 10th
An hour of roadwork to start the day
Over to Mandalay Bay to check out Shark Reef and grab ticket for concert that night
Tried my hand at the craps table at Monte Carlo and lost $150 during my session
Checked out several of the properties (MGM, the aforementioned Monte Carlo, NY/NY, Bellagio and Paris) doing more ‘window shopping’ than actively participating in any games
Early dinner somewhere but must have killed that brain cell between then and now lol
Back to Mandalay Bay for Perry Farrell’s Satellite Party rock show and saw a band by the name of Mink open. Gotta love when the venue offers free vodka up until showtime. ;-)
Thursday October 11th
Pounded the pavement again for an hour
Over to TI for my third NLHE tourney at 11 a.m.
Got three small pairs which I played timidly and then overplayed a pair of Aces with a Queen kicker against two pair which left me hanging by a thread. Next hand was Queen, Six suited which I pushed all in. I got called down/beaten by two Eights in later position. Finished 31st out of 32 in this tournament. :-(
Took a trip to Valley of Fire State Park where I hiked around and took some great pictures.
Then back to the Hard Rock where I took shots of the displays and had an early dinner at the Pink Taco
The evening activities consisted of watching the Volcano at the Mirage, seeing the Sirens of TI perform and then on to Fremont Street to do the tourist thing there.
Friday October 12th
Out for an hour of roadwork
Packed for departure
Trip to TI to say my farewells to TI Danette
Back to the Hard Rock where I spotted Scott Baio, Jason Hervey and others shooting a walking from the center bar scene for some filmed show. Suspect it may be for his reality show. Heard some of them got into a drunken brouhaha later that day.
Lunch at a fast food joint and then to the southern end of the strip to gamble, take pictures and over to the airport for departure from my too short week of activity.
Hey Randy!!
Nice TR!! Again, I'm glad you had a nice trip to Vegas, and although you didn't stay @ TI this trip, I encourage you to let me know in advance before you make your future reservations and I will help you get set up here if you want to stay at TI next time!! We enjoyed meeting you and having you play in the room on the several occasions that you joined us! Enjoy your holidays and we’ll be seeing you next year!! Take Care and Thanks again for the nice TR!
Greets Danette!
Glad you enjoyed the TR.
I'll certainly be in touch about staying at TI my next trip in October of '08. Maybe in June-July (or whenever it's scheduled) though if lightning strikes me and I get a seat at the Main Event for the WSOP (I got close during my online attempts this year).
Hope you have a grand Holiday season (can't believe the decorations are already out) as well and I'll chat with you soon.
Randy
