Lots of tourny while under the weather in Vegas

I got to Vegas on 5/23, well 5/24 when you considered the power was out at the airport and it took almost 90 minutes to get my back, so I got to the Wynn in the middle of the night. Lucky for me- I slept a little on the plane so I sat down in a 2/5NL game. I played for about 2 hours- sucking down orange juice, as I am feeling horrible at this point. That night it was pretty uneventful- no big hands or pots to talk about and finally I had to call it quits- no profit, no loss- just need some sleep.

On Thursday am- I sat down and played a little 2-5 NL prior to the NOON Wynn Tourny. I was so glad to see pocket AA just as I was about to cash out. Someone raised to $30, and there was one caller. I reraised out of the blind to $100 and one guy called me. Flop comes K-6-6. That same guy bets out $60, I re-raise to $160. He pushes in, and I had $140 left in front of me, so I called. I put him on AK or KG, nope 6-4, nice call pre flop ding dong. I really should not complain because I have made some sick money at the Wynn when some people have called my premium hands. So I lost $400 in this quick short session. I sat down at the Wynn tourny- 31 players. I picked up AA on the second hand- no one played with me. I picked up KK about 10 minutes in and the weakest player at the table got involved in the hand with me. He raised pre flop (He had an A), I reraise, and he calls. Flop comes all low cards. He bets out, and I either called or I might have has a small raise- he called. Turn came an A. He pushes all in- I fold. I become short stack and have to nurse it for a good while- I watch our buddy the rookie- lose about 10 minutes later and I'm sick to my stomach. With 18 players left- I'm short stack all things considered and I pick up pocket Jacks. A shorter stack pushes all in, and the next player who was the majority of the table covered- pushes all in. I end up folding my jacks- showing the guy to my right- he was shocked. I said they were no good- first guy had pocket 77, next guy had pocket QQ. I tell him I'm glad it was queens and not 10's. So I made the correct read. The next hand I get AQ, and I raise, and get a caller. Flop was 873, he checked, I raise- he calls. Turn is like a 2 and he goes all in and by this point I'm pot committed so I feel I have to call- he had J9- back to back hands- two correct plays. Guy spikes a 10 on the river, and I'm gone. Later that day I play the 8pm Venetian tourny. This tourny had 61 players, and to be perfectly honest I was felling horrible at this point. I made it past the first break, and I busted out right before the second break. I played a little 1-2 NL after until I just have to goto bed.

On Friday, after sleeping for about 9-10 hours- I switched hotels to Harrahs. A buddy of mine was coming into town, so I sat at a 1/2 NL game waiting for him to come in. Harrahs is very different than the Wynn.Every player at the table was horrible with the exception to the guy to my right and another guy who came in about halfway into the game. Our goal was to play premium hands and hands in position against the rest of the table. In 90 minutes I made a quick $100 in this NL game, and that was hand I lost $100 on a stright and flush and potential overpair draw. Once my buddy showed up- grabbed lunch at the Cheesecake factory and went to Caesars and played cash games for the next 4 hours. I made about $300 in this game, with $220 of it coming early on when I had AQ in the small blind. Player on the button raised, small blind calls, and I call. We are playing 1/2 NL. Flop comes AAQ. Bingo!!! Small blind checks, I check, Button bets out, small blind calls, and I call. Turn is a blank. Small Blind checks, I check, Button bets again (Putting himself all-in). Small Blind raises, and I reraise at this point. Small blind finally thinks about it for a while and finally folds. The button is proud with his A-10, and I just look at him and say- I have the nuts AQ. The rest of the afternoon was uneventful as the table was full of local rocks so the play was tight.
On Friday night- went over to Planet Hollywood for the tourny with the AVPers. I agree that I could talk with a lot of these guys for a while. Good group of people. I ended up finishes like 12th or 13th and I was 4th of the AVPers. I felt the AVPers were the better players, but I felt a few younger players were card racks just catching left and right- it was sick. The best hand I had was in the second level- I had pocket AA, and was involved in hand with another AVPer- flop came AK10. He checked, I bet, he raised and I pushed all in and he called because I thought I was steaming- I guess being sick helped me somehow here. I was amoung the chip leaders for a while before I went card dead- all in all- great tourny. Michael you do a great job on the site.
I ended up playing in the 11:00 Caesars tourny- that was a mistake- I was wiped out by this point and lost right after the first break.

Saturday- played in the Noon Caesars tourny- possibly the worse I have ever done in Vegas- I flopped the nuts when I had QJ and I was involed in a pot with two other players (Flop was a rainbow AK10) Second club came on the turn. A raise, reraise, and I push all-in. One caller, two callers. Two of us have QJ, and the other guy- nut flush draw- river club. Well now being short stacked after I lose a pot or two after the rebuy- I lose when I have AQ and the flop was Q high and I run into another player who had pocket QQ. A little over an hour and I was done. OUCH.
I decided to play at Bellagio and during the afternoon it was uneventful- I finished up $100-$200 playing 2/5NL. I ended up leaving for a little while and then going back and playing 7 hours at night until 4am. That session was the best, and most fun I had during this past trip. Table was very active. Guy to my left would straddle every pot, and then blind raise to $@0 if no one raised. My favorite hand is when I had pocket AA in the big blind. He straddles, two callers, small blind callers, and I just check as I see the $10 raise in his hand- everyone calls, back to me- RAISE- $100 (Thanks for building the pot buddy). One guy calls. After the flop I bet $80 call, and then after the turn- another bet- no call, but a decent pot. Another great pot was when I had pocket 4's, and the flop come 9-8-4. I was in the big blind again. $100 in the pot- 5 players, check around to the last guy to act- he bets $100, I push all-in and I have him covered- he calls his last $120 and flips over 10-9- needless to say- I win that pot. Overall very loose table and very fun table. I ended up a couple hundred during this session.
On Sundayv I played a little bit at the Mirage (1/2NL) and ended up losing a big draw to pcket QQ- I had Ah and 9s- Flop was 9h,8h,3h. Raise, reaise, all-in, call- Lost about $200, but it was even money- just lost the race and got a little unlucky.
I ended up not playing a lot on Sunday- feeling under the weather.

I played in the Noon Caesars tourny on Monday and played very well- made it much deeper in toruny- busted out about in the high 30's. About 125 players, so I was starting to feel a little better at least physically.

Anyway- not the best trip, but it was good to play at the Planet Hollywood tourny. Hopefully I will be able to make the next one.

  1. It was a pleasure to meet you, and thank you for posting your trip report! Thank you for the kind words, but really, I do very little other then yap about poker. It is the board members like you that make this board great.

Sorry the poker gods weren't so kind to you this go around. Being sick doesn't help either.

Nice report. See you at the next one!

  2. Same

  3. I was not where I needed to be away from people. I was sick prior to coming to Vegas and no one in the office got bad.

If your worried about germs- your in the wrong game because poker chips are one of the worst things all things consider in terms of being dirty, etc.
