MGM 2+2 Super-Magoo Jambouree report 6-18-05

Since so many 2+2ers were going to be in vegas for the world series, it was logical that they'd all want to get together and play some Magoo type poker. That's when they called me, Capone, to get together the biggest and best setup ever conceived for a bunch of drunken idiots to play poker! So I of course said yes, can do!

I was originally asked if we could hold the event at the aladdin, and here were my thoughts on that... I like the aladdin, but it just doesn't meet my requirements. No, the only place that would be able to help us would be MGM, so I went straight there to make the arrangements.

We needed up to six tables on a saturday night, because almost 70 players had messaged me on 2+2 indicating their interest in participating. Most rooms can't give up six tables on a saturday night, particularly not during the WSOP. But MGM has accomodated some of my groups before, most notably the wednesday poker discussion group games. MGM also is more than happy to grant us access to the terrific upper room, which is where my own personal table was (of course!).

Now I knew all 70 interested parties wouldn't show up, but about 55 of them did, right on time for the cocktail party too! MGM sent us to the very nice upstairs party room and sent a waitress to boot, and the drunken debotchery started right up! The room was BUSY, so busy in fact that I was really sweating whether they could even give us the tables we had been promised. But no worries, Gary combined some less than full tables of other games, thus allowing us to start off with four tables. Those who didn't get seated right away played other games while they waited, everyone who wanted to play did get to play sooner or later. More stragglers came in late at night, thus we kept all four tables going till very late, and when I left at like 330am there were still two or three going.

We played mixed games on every table, and no one played plain old limit hold'em unless it had some crazy rules, like our table's triple flop hold'em. Every other crazy game in the universe got played, even a couple that haven't been invented yet! The dealers did a great job of winging it with our crazy requests, and they were tipped rather largely to boot!

Thanks to all the 2+2ers for taking up a collection for the floor, I am sure they had their hands full with us!

The average stack was probably about $600, but several players tried to break the bank by purchasing chip stacks (all whites of course) in the thousands range! The dealers must have had very tired arms after the night was out from pushing such huge pots!

Overall, thanks a million to the MGM's fine staff for handling our huge group on a saturday night. We WILL be back, I highly recommend MGM as one of the best poker rooms in town.
