My family was finishing up a two week vacation. Vegas was the last spot and they invited me down. We stayed at the Golden Nugget. I stayed there before durning the wsop in June and love it. The north tower rooms (the ones by the poker room) have pillow top mattresses and down comforters. It's great. I think one of the reasons why I start fading in Vegas after 4 days of binge drinking is due to lack of a good night sleep. I usually stay at Luxor and the beds and blankets aren't nearly as good.
After checking in, I went to one of my favorite poker rooms, The Mirage. They got a 10-20 limit game going about 20 minutes after I got there and I sat in that. It wasn't good. I dropped a nice chunk of change chasing draws and calling all too much.
I have a friend down there that was picking me up and taking me to dinner, thankfully that gave me a reason not to lose the rest of my money. My friend took me to this tapas place off the strip called "firefly". It was fantastic! The ambience and the food. The mojitos were great. At seven bucks a pop, I had four. They have this dessert, a bananna and netella sandwich that was one of the best things I've ever had. I can't reiterate enough how much I liked this place.
After my friend dropped me off at the Golden Nugget, I had enough time to sign up for the 1 a.m. tourney in their poker room. I switched from mojitos to beer. Durning the tourney, I was watching this screen they had in there playing videos. They were playing Salt N Pepa's "Shoop". I haven't seen that in 15 years. While watching it, I leaned back in my chair and didn't realize they chairs have wheels. I fell backwards out of my chair and landed on the floor. When I got up, I said it was the chair's fault. Some older guy next to me, really thick creole accent like the guy in Joe Dirt that says, 'Home is where you make it' , said to me, "Ain't the chair, it's the Budwiser!"
I got knocked out and went to pass out in my room.
Next day, the loss at the Mirage still plagued me. I didn't want to lose more money in a cash game, so I signed up for the 160 buy in tourney at Binion's. 91 players and I got 28 place. I went nuts with a draw when the blinds started to go up. I felt it was time to take a stand. oopps...
That was it for the poker. I only had about 46 hours. Not nearly enough time to do what I wanted but it left me wanting more which is better than wanting and waiting to leave.
