My trip to the MGM Grand

So my wife has a conference in Vegas and being the supportive guy I am, I go along to keep her company. I know what a great husband I am, going along to play poker all day while she works, but that is what good husbands do right?

Anyway, I ened the trip about up a couple hundy, and it could have been even better except for the all time cooler of my hand an hour before I leave. A couple hands stand out in my memory. Sunday we arrived and checked into the MGM signature. What a great place, nicest room I've stayed in, great service from everyone there. Went and bought in for the $200 max at the $1 2 no limit table. Played someone loose for a while as the level of play was so bad, ussually a contination bet after the flop would take down any pot that you raised pre-flop with and if you got re-raised, a fold or a call and bet on a balnk turn would win. Anyway, I'm up about $200 hundred late in the night (or early morning) and get 99 on the button. I raise to $10 and get a couple callers including the small blind. Flop is perfect K92 rainbow. Small blind makes it $20 to go and it is folded to me. I smooth call and the turn is a duece, giving me 9's full. He bets $40, and I think for 20 seconds and put him all in. Huge over bet I know, but at this point I'm 15 Johnie Walker reds into the night and have shown several bluffs and mediocre hands at best. He thinks, then and puts it all in (about 200) and turns and asks "Small pair?" as he tables K7! I say "You sir are drawing dead" and drag the biggest pot of my life.

All in all I was alarmed to the terrible play that night and again Monday. I am playin 1 2 again and get a free look at the pot with 35 (the slingshot, casue you can kill a giant with it. Flop is 2 4 7. One guy bets $20, I call guy on my left calls. Turn is the most beautiful A you've ever seen. I check it, guy on my left bets $30, guy in the middle goes all in, i call guy on my left calls! Nthey turned over AK and 77, the river is a 3and I rake another huge pot! Felted two guys on the same hand, never done that before.

Gave a bit back thursday before I left on the following hand. Get a free flop in the big blind with 24. Flop is 224! Great right? Check on the flop. When a 3 hits the turn I'm praying someone hit the straight and bet out $10. Small blind raises to $40. I put it all in and he calls with 44. Drawing dead to the case two (which doesn't hit) and I get felted for just over $200! Oh well, what can you do there but go broke?

Going back in just over two weeks can't wait. This time gonna hit the TI for sure. Rally wanted to last trip, but the plaer where so bad, the game so live amd the dealers were great. What more could you want? The case two, but hey, we can't have everything, right?

  1. Congrats on the winning trip, sounds like a great time.

    @bigchip

    You're just asking for the poker gods to strike you down saying something like this :smile:. When one of the two kings left in the deck would have hit on the river his "drawing dead" hand would have crushed you!

  2. Good point. I actually had to re-read the post to realize a king gives him kings full of 2's (not trip kings) which beats 9s full of kings.

  3. @bigchip

    not quite on this one. he's got 2 outs.

    **edit - sorry, just saw it was said above, sorry for restating the obvious.**

    Excatly what I was thinking when I read this.

  5. Sounds like my "cooler" from December at Caesar's. First hand of trip I have pocket 99. Flop comes 9 10 10. Flopped full house, lost all my money to guy who flopped quad 10's. What are you gonna do.........Just pay it off.

    I too thought I was about to read... then the POKER GODS sent down a lighting bolt and struck me right between the eyes with a King on the river. Which really would have been a just thing. For you to wrongly and shamefully declairing someone else drawing dead when they still had winning outs.

  7. Another nice drag, way to go!
