Day 1 - May 26

After getting some sleep following a midnight arrival to Harrah's (took bus from airport) I started my morning a very good breakfast at their Flavors Buffet. I caught the Coast Casins shuttle from Bill's to spend the day at the Orleans.

Arriving around 10a to play the $225 +$10 HORSE event of the Orleans Open. It takes just under an hour to finally get a seat at a $4-8 w/half kill O8 cash game. Including getting paid on the turn and river by two players after checking around when I flopped quad 7s, three came on the flop, it was the softest O8 game I'd ever played. Just ABC poker crushed those playing danglers, rainbows, and rags. Netted $115 after tip.

In spite of a couple stumbles on hands I didn't play because I wasn't as attentive to the action I was argueably a card away from cashing in the HORSE tournament. In the last O8 hand of the level before 1st post-dinner break I raised in utg+2 pos, no limpers, w/A379 and was called only by sb. Flop of A3(10?) I bet after villain checks (A2xx no good eh?). Stunned villain talks out the hand to himself for a few minutes (did this earlier and nearly talked himself into devistation vs me) before raising me all-in. I call. He turns over only bigs. Turn gives 4 low...river pairs his jack. Out 39th. I'd be interested to hear discussion on this.

Anyway, I played more cash O8 later and finished up $5 in an hr or 2 of play before heading to the hotel.

Tally - $115. More to come so stay tuned.

  1. Ok I have a couple of questions about your hand. Actually A-2 has a better chance
at a low here than you do. He has A-2-3 if he is holding that as a low. Also - You don't say
how he plays - could he have had Ace-10 here or maybe trips. You called an all in
with 2 pair and no really good draw. If he did have Ace-10 you were dominated unless you
hit a 3. If he had Jack-King -Queen - he had a good draw on you, especially if he did hold an Ace.
If he had Ace with another high card - he could outdraw you to the 3. I just don't know his play
so I can't really say if you thought he was just calling bad. I'm not sure I would have called his all
in here. Also you don't mention suits. How was the board suited? Could he have been on a flush draw?
I just see so many hands that get spanked on 2 pair only, especially when there might be a higher 2 pair or
a flush draw when the other card you need doesn't hit.

If you thought he was just a calling station, then yes it was possible a really good call, but if you are on the
bubble and you don't have a better draw in that game, I'd wait for a better spot. I just don't like the board
A-3-10 with your hand. 2 pair always looks good, but this is such a huge drawing game, I like to give myself
way more outs to call a big all in with. I have to run all the combinations fast in my head, and I don't like that
board enough to call an all in with unless you thought he was really a bad player. Too many ways it can go bad
in a hurry here. Plus the other thing I don't like is your other 2 cards here. They are no help at all. I like to
go big when my hand could make more combinations with all 4 cards. That is one of the reasons I love wrap hands
so much, especially double suited. You can make so many combinations with those hands. I like hands that give you
    backdoor and frontdoor draws both.

If I am mis-reading what happened, then please disregard all of this. But if I am reading this right, I don't know
if I would have risked going out here with that hand.

  2. if play omaha 8 i might be over at the rio tonite after i leave ballys. sent u a PM with my phone, let me know if u are still in town, think u leave june 4th right? what do u think about the $7 time charge at rio when they get only about 10 hands per half hour and u end up paying the time charge about once per orbit? its horrible isnt it? how can anyone win?

of course in the limit theres no time charge, just a rake, but the $4-8 dont go and only the $10-20 goes and thats too high for a guy with only a $7800 roll.

  3. 7K is plenty of BR to play O8B with if you are a winner in the game.

  4. Sorry about the delay in responding, I haven't had much time nor real ability to get back here. I'm currently at the Orleans at Java Vegas on my Galaxy. Thanks for the analysis. To supply more ino we were info, at that stage of the tournament I'd shown consistently strong hands in the O8 levels and while the villain had shown some propensity for loose calling play, he'd only stayed with me once when I'd preflop raised in position on him. In the previous hold'em round he nearly talked himself into a damaging call. In this situation I saw he'd looked at his cards before I did and I sensed weakness from him and everyone else. I believe I was dbl suited with a baackdoor low and enough chips to isolate. He talked to himself for three minutes or so before deciding to raise me all-in because he figured they'd be in on the flop anyway. I knew if he had a low draw it was worse because his decision would have been snappier. I knew before I raised my A37 was best so I figured I was a favorite for half and with a paired A I could scoop. I didn't think he'd gamble. I don't recall his suits but at best he two cards of one suit, flop was a rainbow and the turn didn't threaten a flush for either of us. I have wondered if should have limped and if he and I got to the turn checking to then bet but I didn't want a third person in. Does that help?

  5. @sevencard2003

Played the $120 O8 Caesars event instead. Exited like 37th with 18 places paid. More on that later. May play the 7p $75 HORSE tournament at the Orleans tonight.

  6. Day 2 - May 27

Generally a struggle. Just to get on the Harrah's radar I began my morning at the lone $1-2 NL tble. Played mostly short a couple of players I left after an hour down $46 after making some early gains on a bluff and then losing it back with sokme interest with AKo played poorly against the same vilain. So, hopped the shuttle to the Orleans.

Awating a seat at the Omaha tables I lost $54 at $4-8 LH w/ half kill. My loss attributed to Q10 losing to 109o on a 1098 2-suited board. My got sensed what I was up against but called down. Seat opens at $4-8 Omaha and find play tougher than previous eves and cards not as strong. Lost a c-note before battling back to finish down $25.

    Day -$125
    Trip -$240

  7. Tough 2nd day. Hopefully things improved as the trip continued.

Any interesting activities other than poker? (meals, etc)

  8. @Cashewz

Actually, not really. Probably the best value I discovered on the trip was the breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and etc at Java Vegas found over at the Orleans. I used it for internet access as well. A surprisingly poor value are the food options across from the Orleans poker room. Over priced, average at best...even for quick food options. I'll get day 3 rolling on here soon. I just don't have time for it at the moment. Stay tuned.
