This trip was completely spur of the moment, as many trips to Vegas seem to be. It all started late Friday(1/27)night with me reading the new trip reports here on AVP, this always stirs up my poker juices. After finishing off the last of the new trip reports,it was back to work, multi-tabling $1/2 limit hold em on PokerStars. I have been running good online lately and that night was no exception, I finally reached an arbitrary amount that I had set for myself, and decide its time to make a significant(relatively) withdrawl. Can Neteller wire the $ to the cage at the Bellagio? Before I know it Im on the road to LV(from SanDiego). I get to the MGM at around 8am and suddenly I feel like a million bucks(I had been up for around 26 hrs). I cant wait to sit and get straight into the action - one problem, no action at 8am. There was a long-handed 2-4 game going, probably running since the night before, but after driving 5 hours, alone, the 2-4 just didn't do it for me(if I wanted to grind at low limit HE I woulda stayed at home). So I decide to get a room at the IP to take a nap and wait for all the action to begin, my comp$'s were more than enough for the room. I plan to wake up at around 1pm, but I oversleep just a little bit, I'm outta the rooom by 9pm. I head straight to Ceasars, by foot, and plan to play a little nl but there was a long list. I'm about to tell the girl to put me in a 3-6 LHE game but stop myself mid-sentence and tell her that I'll take the 6-12 game instead. I surprised myself in that I had never played higher than 4-8, but I had read in CardPlayer recently that if you beat your game three staight sessions in a row, that you should take a shot at a bigger game. I knew that I was ready and I was still comfortable with the stakes. I sit at a table with a good mix of players, but to my surprise three players were sitting there with "over" buttons in front of them.(the game is the same except when there are only players with "over" buttons involved in the pot, the stakes are increased, in this case it becomes no limit!)Playing overs are completely optional, and the three guys tried to get me to play overs but I declined. After about an hour I had won two nice sized pots and had run my $300 buy in to about $450, the play was passive except for the guys with over buttons. After about three hours I wasn't going anywhere, but was inspired when there was a huge hand involving two of the overs players, they got heads-up on the turn and all in on the turn with set vs set on an uncoordinated board, KKK beat 999 for over $1200. The very next hand I told the dealer that I was ready for that "over" button. For the next two hours I didnt play any nl hands, but I did manage to win a few medium sized pots and now my stack was sitting pretty at about $600. Then at around 4am this hand came up. Folded to me UTG+2, I look down at AA, I raise, folded to BB who calls, he is one of the "overs" players- do you see where this is going? Flop J-K-3 2 hearts I bet $20 he goes in the tank and finally makes it $90, I think I very well might be behind, but I call 70$ more knowing I have outs, Im thinking Im up against a big draw or more likely 2-pair, if my read is correct I still had a 3 or ace for an out as well as a backdoor nutflush draw and even a backdoor str8 draw(yeah, that 1 woulda been pretty sick if it hit). Turn card 3 of hearts! oh man, if my first read was right I've got the best hand with aces-up vs K's and J's, but my second read was a big draw aka flush draw, and I'm behind but still have outs. I bet $50 as a defensive/value bet, and immediately he pushes all in for about $350 more, now I know he had a flush and he was ahead, but too many outs A,3 or any heart, so I call and jokingly ask if he wants to run the river twice he laughs nervously and the the dealer flips over an "Ace on the River", a la Barry Greenstein, and I'm pushed the $1000 in two dollar chips and I can't help quoting Chau Giang, "I love play poke-ah" while rubbing my torso with both hands. He mucked his hand but tells the table that he did indeed have the flush with Q-10h, meaning he flopped an open-ended str8 flush draw, with a royal flush draw. The young guy leaves with his head down and I give em the ole pat on the back and finally quit the game at around 5am, a $800 winner. Damn I'm glad I decided to step my game up. I crashed until late afternoon(charged another night), did some homework at the Ceasars sportsbook while watching the Laker Piston game(go under!) and headed home.
