Three Days At Luxor
I just got back from three days at Luxor. Thursday, I played in a game from 6am to 10pm. I played at a 2/4 table with seven German tourists, one Canadian, and another American who periodically posted live straddles to keep things interesting. The Germans kept jamming pots with marginal hands and were very tough to read. For the first five hours, I was stuck for about $70 of my $120 buy in. Continuing to play tight, I ended up ahead $25 after 16 hours of play. The free doughnuts during the graveyard shift were much appreciated.
Friday, I played at a much tighter table with average players. The highlight of the session was flopping quad 5's on which I got a fair amount of action. The rest of the session was unremakable except when my set of 9's lost to trip aces. With the $20 high hand prize, I was up $35 after four hours, giving me an hourly rate of $3/hour for the 20 hours of play.
Some of my favorite dealers were still at Luxor including Vito, Jeff, George, Richard, and Kevin. According to Jody, who was on the floor Thusday, the hotel bought two new tables which I think will give them 13 when the new chairs arrive.
For low limit players like me, I think that Luxor is a very good room with competent, friendly, dealers and prompt and pleasant cocktail service. Incidentally, the new check in area near the North entrance saves players from a long walk to the old check in area near the east end of the property. I hope to post a new report after the new year.
