Up and down fun at the Monte Carlo
Stayed and played at the Montel Carlo room, and spent a quick two hours at the Flamingo room as well.
Played 1/2 NL w/ $200 max buyin only. This was really more for fun than profit, although I was able to leave up about $75.
The players were extremely friendly, everyone was having a good time with just a few folks that took the game too seriously. Almost everyone was at an average playing ability, and played the cards in front of them more than they played the other players hands. An above average player will make money here, but since most players were making conversation even during hands they were in, it's hard to make proper reads. A few players were rocks and tight agressive, but most played too many hands and would dig into their pockets when busted to contribute.
The MC room is very nice, not pretentious, and caters to mostly tourists with just a few locals. I played with one of the dealers, Rueben, and he told me a great deal of stories about his 27 years dealing in town.
