vegas is slow??
The only reason for this mid-week trip,was i got round trip airplane tickets for $106 and had free rooms at the IP....I like to drink and play poker,and it -10 here in minn in feb,so for $106 it was not too hard to talk a friend in to going with me..
We play at the IP for most of the trip,and thye keep telling me that vegas is slow right now,but there was four tables going every night we were there (mon-wed),two 2-4 limit and two 1-2 NL,and where i come from thats busy....
we went to Orleans to eat(prime rib loft) one night took the free shuttle from Bill's this is the way to go,the food was great,and we stoped by the poker room they had 12 tables going on a tue nite...wish we had more time to stay and play there...
On our last day we went down down and checked out Binion's new room...They did a nice job on it..they were also playing h.o.r.s.e which u don't see being played everywhere.....they had 5 tables going on a wed afternoon...
So vegas might be slow but i would say poker is still doing well in vegas....
I just came back from a week. It wasn't 'dead' like I was expecting, but if you look closely you can see lots of empty slots, pits that aren't even open and lots of dealers standing in front of idle table games. Where I think it was the most obvious was in the restaurants and bars - I can't tell you how many restaurants I walked by during the week that were completely empty or even closed.
yes, you are right the restaurants,bars and table games were slow..The Hard Rock was the slowest that we saw,but i didn't know if that was because it was a mon or if thats the way weekends are too.....but like i said it seem like there were still plenty of poker players around...
I'd like to know what's going on at the Orleans and Binions. Food, Smokiness, service, etc. Things change and I'm coming soon.
i believe there is a big bowling tourney at/near the orleans right now so i've heard they are having decent traffic.
Bowling tourny at Orleans that could be thay do have a huge bowling alley, plus i hear alot of locals play poker there....
Food at the orleans was good,the poker room is wide open and just of casino floor so it might be alittle smokey, did't play there so i don't know about service,i drink alot when in vegas and have never had bad or slow service from any of the poker rooms i played at...
I have eaten at the cafe in Binions a few times and it seems the drunker i am the better the food was...if sober i would eat at the cafe at the Four Queens they have real good food......
Binions has a new poker room and its glassed off so its totaly smoke free.....there is only like three poker rooms in vegas that u can smoke in and i beleive they are all off strip casinos..
If you were there on wed. afternoon the horse table was probably part of the wpdg(wed. poker discussion group) which includes players like Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and the ocaisionnal mike sexton or shulman bros very cool game ussually 4/8 and fun get to play with some names shoulda sat
Yeah, i should have sat down in that game it would have been fun i think....it was just a long week of walking around,i was pretty tired and kinda broke and we were flying out in 9 hours...
Where did you find a round trip flight for $106? I can't get one from Chicago for less than $250ish.
we flew Allegaint Air line out of Sioux Falls,SD. yeah $270 is around what we normally pay for round trip...but i have seen allegaint run $29 each way just never when i can go..just got lucky the day i look and the dates we want to go it was $39 each way.....
@Dark_Tag
I have been looking for cheap flights for sometime in the end of march and so far $250 is been the cheapest...have seen it for $280 to about $480.....and after paying $106 i'm having a hard time spending more then that for my next trip....
It all depends on your timing. If you're looking for end of March to Vegas, $250 sounds like a good deal and you definitely won't find anything close to what you paid before. Two reasons for this: NCAA tourney and Spring Break. Vegas will be fairly busy during that time (at least compared to the current slow times). If you want cheap flights, you need to plan for times when Vegas is usually slow.
@mauihaole
Yeah,thats kinda what i was thinking also...figure i will give it one more week or so and then book it....hopefully for $250..of course my luck lately has been horse shit.......
Was in Vegas from Friday the 13th through Tuesday the 17th and I would have to say that the weekend was busy but once it got to Monday the crowds died down quite a bit. This is probably typical but this year is seems even a bit more so. Also, table games had a lot lower limits than in past years. Texas Hold'em and 3 card poker during the day was $5 min at Mandalay Bay which I believe has always been $10 or 15 minimum that I've seen.
Poker rooms seemed somewhat normal from what I've seen in the past. Out of MB, Luxor and MGM (I was staying at MB so didn't venture out too far when looking for a poker game) MGM was the only room with limit going, and the others only had 1 or 2 NL games going.
u went to vegas on friday the 13th??? did u have any luck?? of course if the plane did't crash, i guess that would be lucky enough for that day.......
I didn't really have a whole lot of luck playing VP but I did win a whopping $6 playing craps (first time trying it playing $3min at Casino Royale) and $25 playing poker (again, first time playing in a casino 2/4L). I was lucky for other people playing the machines. I was next to someone that hit $4,000 jackpot at Bellagio, $1,500 and $1,600 jackpots at Mandalay Bay. Too bad it wasn't me
i have yet to step up to a craps table and play. i'm intimidated by it! i play it online, but never muster up enough guts to play at the casino and i've been going twice a year for about 5 years! lol
craps is a great game, you gotta try it next trip. stick with pass line bets with taking odds and betting 6 & 8. That will keep it pretty safe for ya
damn, I gotta follow my own advice sometimes lol
i played craps with my two buddys at casino royale last trip...played for 30 min lost $100 and quit...well my buddys stayed and played and one guy rolled for 45 mins and one buddy made $1500 and the other made $600...so i was a little bitter...
just booked my march 27th-30th trip and got round trip air fare for $212....its not $106 but for march madness weekend i'll take it..........
Playing at Casino Royale was fun. The first time I found a table that was empty so I could go at my own pace and the staff was helpful explaining everything. I put down $10 so they knew I was new to it. It definately can become addicting, especially when you are winning. I stuck to the pass line but didn't take any odds since I was new to it. I will definately play again next time I go.
I was in Vegas 2/12 - 2/18. It wasn't very busy on Thursday. A little busier on Friday. Seemed "normal" on Saturday and Sunday probably due t V-Day and President's Day. Limits for black jack were certainly lower than I had seen in the past on several of the days. The poker rooms actually seemed fairly busy. I could always find a game.
i'm going to be back in vegas the last weekend in march,and kinda hope its still slow...at least in the sports books and on the streets,i'm just not a big fan of huge crowds of people...it just makes it alot easier to get around if there is only a 50 people on the side walk and not 300....and i'm sure poker rooms are busy on weekends so i'm not too worried about finding a good game going.....
I won't dispute the numbers, Vegas has definately been slower lately, but I visited from Feb. 12-17 and I found the weekend to be as busy as it was last year on the same weekend. From my experience the Bellagio was busier (mainly the table games), Red Rock and MGM were about the same but they were both busy. I played 12 hrs at the MGM on Friday and Saturday and it was busy. Friday night there were only a couple empty tables. I believe they had 8-9 1-2NL tables going. I didn't play at the Venetian this time but I did stop by and it was very with the DSE and cash games going. Just my two cents.
