Venetian Deep Stack -TOP HEAVY

Venetian Deepstack is still a great tournament. But VERY TOP HEAVY on payouts. Only way to get value as far as cashing is playing a satellite unless you can get to final table. 400$ buy-in i think 9th place was only 3500 or something like that. Compared to 47k for 1st. Out of 606 players i think it should spread out a little more. Alot of good players and still a lot of donkey's. Seems like the tourist just need to play every hand and hope to get lucky. 2 cards and a dream!!!

The SNG's is the way to go in this series, good structure and time.

  1. I don't have any first hand knowledge of this recently, but I have heard this mentioned by many people. Some prefer the top heavy structure as they feel they are huge favorites to make the top 3 once they reach the final table, and others think they should be rewarded more for a deep finish but non top 3 spot. I'm not sure which way I lean but just wanted to comment that I have heard this complaint from others in the past.

  2. I don't have strong feelings either way but the "top heavy" payouts for tournaments is a factor in me being primarily a cash game player. I usually only play 2-3 tournaments a year. This past summer I entered two Caesars Mega-Stack tournaments. In the senior event ($650 buy-in) I finished 48 out of 811 and won $1,436. In the main event ($1,080 buy-in) I finished 63 out of 1,602 and won $3,729. While I was happy to cash, each event took up most of two days and my net winnings of $3,435 was significantly less than my cash game winnings while I was in LV. For me the primary reason for playing tournaments is the thrill of playing against a strong field and hopefully doing well. The downside is playing for many hours and missing the money bubble.

  3. This is a perfect example of the "GREED" needed to be a successfull poker player. Tournament or Cash Game. I often hear players say "i'm not trying to be greedy" and I think to myself your in the wrong game for those thoughts. You better be greedy! you better try to squeeze every last drop of money out of everyone else or that narrow profit margin becomes -EV in a real hurry. I also hear the other side just as often from the TOP HEAVY argument. Those that finally make it to the top three say I thought it would be more! My point is stop worrying about the payouts after the fact. You should have already figured that out before you even put your money down. Worry about one thing and one thing only and thats FIRST Place. In fact I would like to see some winner take ALL tournaments! NO CHOP! NO DEALS ALLOWED! WINNER TAKE ALL!! Now thats a tournament!

  4. And that format would break nearly every poker player around as a select few would end up with all the money. Sure, it's a novel idea for a small buy in once in a while but if all tourneys were like that they'd cease to exist

Then head over to the Chicago Poker Classic at the Hammond Horseshoe on February 27th. $350 buy-in Winner Take All with $15000 added
