ViVa Las Vegas......Poker Poker Everywhere
Brief history of me. I currently live in Indiana. I play primarily at the Argosy river boat at least 5 times a month. I used to live in Las Vegas and played poker weekly well before No Limit Holdem took roots. I decided to take a trip back to Vegas to test the poker waters since leaving 3 years ago. I arrived Saturday Feb. 21 2009 around 11am and after checking into the Golden Nugget, made a beeline directly to Binions...No not for poker but to their deli for one of the best corn beef ruben sandwiches on the planet. After filling my belly I decided to hit the poker room. Man has things changed. Relocated to the old sports book, it is a very beautiful poker room. Wood accents, flat panel T.V.s, adjustable chairs and of course smoke free. Pretty much the same poker staff that was there years ago...and funny they still remember me! I must say that I had extremely high expectations of the quality of play and skill. I was sadly disappointed. I must say that the skill and quality of play and Indiana Riverboats is superior to the play at Binions. The locals played the $1 $2 no limit like it was limit poker. They got upset if you raised the pot pre-flop anything over $15. It was calling station central. Unfortunately this was not an isolated incident. The Golden Nugget, Wynn, and Fitzgerald's played equally as horrible. It really wasn't the fact of poor calling and suck outs, it was more of the cockiness of the locals. In my opinion, I feel that tourney poker has ruined the lower limit cash games. It seems that everyone just wanted to win enough to get an entry into some tourney. The only saving grace was a 2-5 game at the Wynn that was fun but pretty tough. Needless to say I left this trip with disappointment. I figured that the Midwest was behind the level of play, but the truth is we in the Midwest play a tighter game with higher starting cash for the lower limit games. The positive thing in Vegas is that you have more flexibility on the table. If both players want to chop the pot they can anytime, if they want to run it twice, they can. I will say that I now have a new found respect for Midwest poker.
Please tell me where you were able to run it twice? I have been all over in Vegas and havent found a room that will let you run it twice.
Thanks.
I want to know what room let him chop a pot anytime so that i can never play there.
yeah really, i never heard of being able to run it multiple times.. no way the gaming commission would go for that.
if its all calling stations, then play tight, wait for a big hand, or top pair and push them off the pot with a big bet.
Many Vegas rooms do n olt allow chops.
@alf1052
I have never heard of a room in vegas that did allow chops (other than the blinds) (Maybe Bellagio in its biggest games where they pretty much let the players do what they want)
Another poster who seems disappointed to have bad players at their table. I just don't get it, why wouldn't you want more bad players than good at your table?
