  1. Can you share your poker resume?

Is this a knee jerk reaction or do you have a thorough/calculated plan?
"GOING WITH 1000 CASH, 3000 ON INTERAC FOR TRIP" does not equal "GOING WITH 5K POKER ROLL AND 1K LIVING ALLOWANCE"

Do you think your day 1 strategy seems a bit optimistic?

I look forward to your updates and I wish you luck and patience.

  2. Play tight aggressive, table selection is everything, if you find yourself with a bunk of rocks/nits pack up and move to another table or casino. MGM and Bally's always seemed to have the wildest easiest games for me.

    and stop yelling.

  3. Good luck to you. I'm curious as to what you learn during your trip that makes you a better live player.

  4. Good luck .

DO NOT USE ALL CAPS. Did you find the internet for the first time yesterday?

I do not expect a follow up anyway

  5. I could just imagine the replies if this OP were on the 2+2 forums.

    I wish you patience.

  6. When did TBC move to Calgary? I must've missed that.

Good luck - and good patience - to OP who, I notice, is now three days into the trip.

    Update?

  7. @Cashewz
    hahahahaha

  8. Is this the same as the guy who wanted to turn his $50 betting on basketball to make the wsop buy in? How did he get on anyway?

  9. Doon doon doon, another bites the dust.
Doon doon doon, another bites the dust.

And another one gone, and another one gone
    Another one bites the dust...

    Has anyone heard from Destiny?

  15. @Zin

I would love to hear from my destiny. Could save me a lot of time and money

  16. Saw what I believe to be was him playing .50/1 at bills on monday.

  17. Zin
    • Zin

Is the .50/1 at bills a money maker or a joke?

  18. @Zin Depends on your taste in humor, I guess. Last three times I walked through Bill's & stopped at the rail, there appeared to be about $150-$200 on the table. Total, spread among the ten players, which is about 20% of the money on the table in the average 2/4L game. So if you manage to get someone to stack off to you, I guess you might stand to net around 12 to 15 bucks after rake & toke. But maybe I just walk by it at the wrong time 'o day.

Last I heard she was working the day shift at Spearmint Rhino, and doing outcall from her uncle Leroy's $99/week room out on Boulder Highway.

To be fair he never said what Saturday morning he would post just Saturday morning.

She told me that she would never go back that. Well, should have seen it coming. She has never been the same since Beyonce left her behind

  22. Alright well here it is long overdue...as most of you already figured out i got my ass handed to me but definitely not on the poker tables, well almost not...alright so i get into vegas late that friday night and am definitely way to tired to play poker, check into the room it sucks but that was expected. Actually have a good sleep considering all the people playing with there harleys all night long. So saturday morning i head straight to bellagio at around 11, sit down at 2-5 full table, sit and fold and watch like shit bellagio cmon pretty cool, finally gets a-q d utg, table was pretty agressive so i limp early, utg + 1 makes it 20, three callers by the time it gets back to me, i highly doubt anyone has anything major and decide to pump it to 50, not committing anything but just trying to build the pot if the initial raiser calls everyone has odds to play, so call call call. Flop comes q high with two diamonds, im first to act and ship 350, boom call to my left quick like snap call no hollywood for the people behind, and the guy behind him goes all in for less. Turn blank, so i think im done obviously missed and there has to be a set, or a chop no other reasonable hand out there. River money card and im up to near 1000, buddy slams over bottom set and storms out, oh well. Not much happens for the next two hours and im out. Up about 6 from what i can remember...i took shitty notes. Alright ill make it quick cuz obviously you guys all no what happens...tuesday comes along (that was the day my flight was supposed to leave) im up 3k. No way am i getting on that flight...5 days later im playing 5-10 at the bellagio (number one mistake, who did i think i was, went there planning on playing 1-2 run good for a week and now im at 5-10 very rookie mistake, everyone knows to play in your bankroll, but shit i was there to take a shot at vegas not make 20 bucks playing 1-2 or .5-1 at bills like some clown on here said, go big or go home broke right) So here i am playing 5-10 right im into the game for 1k, rebuy for another dime, so that puts my entire roll at 5 grand and i mean thats everything i can gamble, if i lose its back to calgary to work some crappy ass job and dream of what couldve been....oh and yeah ive got the whole thing in my pocket...okay so hear it is and for you real poker grinders this will make you sick but its same old story for me. Im the button QK off suit, limp family pot by the time it gets to me...so i limp cuz im playing a game over my head...i limp with qk off, which you know i hadnt been hitting sorta makes sense right? Talk to me on that specifically guys... flop comes 9-10-j rainbow. UTG leads out for 90 fold all the way to me on the button, smooth call (i started the hand with rougly 9) turn comes brick think it was 2 of clubs or something. Buddy leads out again this time for 280, i dont hollywood i dont mess around happy to take the pot there right, and i have the nut maybe hell calls with 78 q8 it was limp right...so i just ship it total bet was 500 on top...buddy than goes into the epic show of trying to put me on a hand finally he announces "you got QJ and he calls me, river 9 of clubs and ill never forget that card.9 of CLUBS i have nightmares of that card...i turn over qk he slow rolls his full house J9 and i throwup a little on the felt. Now heres where it gets interesting, there is not a chance in hell im gonna sit at that game and grind back my 2k loss right, so i get up no scene obviously im canadian we dont do that stuff, good hand and i walk out...where do i go? do i go outside have a smoke...do i go walk it off...nope! straight to high limit blackjack sit down lose my entire roll in about 3 hours get drunk as fuck...yeah prolly shoulda told you guys i just dont have the discipline to handle bad beats i just lose my mind and play the worst game in the world. Alright and it gets better...check this out i get back to the room ive got that 1k i was telling you about earlier left...flights back to calgary 7 8 9 hundred bucks each so wow i book a flight for tuesday 250 but that means almost another week in vegas good thing i prebooked the hotel when i was riding high. So i get back to the room drunk as fuck like i said, pass out on the bed, wake up to some weird sound i shit you not there is a black dude in the corner of my room going through my stuff, wow is this really happening? I get up he bolts, i didnt have shit for him to take except for..duh duh duh my visa card yea!!! for being to drunk to lock the deadbolt. I call security, they call metro i end up with a splitting headache thinking about J9 offsuit as i fill out an incident report on metros hood. HAHAH well boys thats it eat this shit up cuz its all real i wouldnt lie about a single word thats how it all went down...so for those that are interested back in calgary now, if you think 1-2 is a grind try waking up at 6am working for 11 bucks an hour packaging beef. But you know what ill be back not in 2011, i gotta grind out a serious roll first but you will here from me in may 2012 mark my words. I WISH YOU ALL PATIENCE (CAPS LOCKS FOR THE HATERS!!!) PEACE

  23. i just dont have the discipline

...or the most basic communication skills to use punctuation or sentence/paragraph structure. No wonder people can't get good jobs.

Wake up to a guy in your room!! Holy crap, good thing he wasn't violent. This is one of the reasons I slowed down on my drinking, got to be able to function, especially in a town like Vegas.

  24. Wow. So just a tip... If you do this again next year, its going to end up the exact same way. If you can't take a single beat without going on tilt and blowing your entire roll, you're never going to be successful. You even mention bankroll management, but kind of sluff it off... "go big or go home broke".... well you did, are you proud? Man, its not a joke, if you want to be successful, you have to have some hard line rules to follow or this is what happens.

Seriously, good luck packing meat. Its a long way to make $5k back at $11/hr. I want to wish you well, but with that kind of a blow up, I can't imagine anything is going to work out that way. I'm glad you are not the only Canadian in here - the rest of us represent pretty well I think.

Has anyone heard from Destiny? Its been a while, maybe he is living the high life lol. Computer for some reason had not updated his post. At least he had a good time lol, expensive but a good time none the less, stupid is what stupid does lol.

  26. this story is such a train wreck that it's hard to believe. We've had some posts like this in the past and some of them have ended up being cover stories for folks who actually lost their money playing poker and were lying to themselves.

If you're not telling the truth try to be honest with yourself for the next trip. if you are telling the truth, this sux and I apologize.

Either way, true or not (and I don't know) I wish you luck in the future. Hopefully you enjoyed the ride while it lasted. You have plenty of company.

so what happened with the visa card? was the perp able to charge anything on it? Hopefully you canceled it immediately.

  27. This whole thing reads like a joke post. Can anyone really be that clueless? I thought OP said he was going to play 1/2 to start, but the first thing he does is to sit down at a 2/5 table. The first hand he posted, it showed a complete lack of understanding about hand strength and position, not sure how he got to 3k profit by Tuesday morning with that display of poker prowess.

In any case, it this is in fact truthful, then my advice is to not dream of poker glory. You don't have the discipline nor the skill to succeed as a poker professional. I mean, you make Tony Bigcharles look like a poker genius and model of self discipline by comparison.

When I read the original post I was rather suspicious, and did not respond. Calgary, from what I've heard through multiple reliable sources, is a poker town. It is supposed to have the best poker action in Canada. I don't see any reason why you would need to go to Vegas to take a shot at poker. If you are really serious about getting good at poker and build a BR, do it in Calgary where you live. Read some books, take some online instructions, read strategy forums and post hands there, LEARN. Then go and try out at the 1/2 tables in Calgary, the action is supposed to be excellent. If you can't make it there, it can't make it anywhere.

  28. Vook - I hate to say this, but I think you are right. This story
sounds a bit far fetched to me, and also - did I read that right.
He got a full table of limpers in a 5-10 game?? I've never seen that.
None of the guys I play 5-10 with would allow that - someone would
be pushing to pick up the limper's money!! I just find that one a bit
    hard to go with.

  29. Destiny as others mentioned, some of the details of your story seem far fetched. I would say that the end results was basically the same, you went to Vegas you to took a shot and it didn't work out. I'm also assuming that whatever happened it did include some tilting and pit game bleeding of the roll.

I think the main problem is your in a dead end crappy job making $11/hr. If I had to get up at 6AM to pack meat in a meat freezer I would be dreaming about escape anyway I could as well, and why not dream about being a poker pro. The problem is it's not a very realistic dream. If you've done any reading on here you'll see that being a low stake poker pro is almost impossible.

The point is you need to wake up from these dreams and use up your desire to get out of this job to better use. Maybe you need to go back to school. At the very least update your CV/resume and start looking for another job. Hell you live in Alberta there's jobs to be had if your willing. I work in Oil & Gas and there's a ton of entry level jobs you could shoot for. I've heard stories of 18 years kids driving dump trucks up North in the pits making $80K+ a year with just a high school education. Maybe try to get a CDL. With that you can get all kinds of jobs in the Oil & Gas field.

  30. Well put -Nit. I've heard you can make $20/hr or more just working at Tim Hortons in Fort Mac.... trying to save $5k at $11/hr and blowing it in Vegas like that is.... voluntarily signing up for torture! And yes.... this does smell pretty fishy.

  31. @Steelhead

Not to mention there would be lots of loose money in a oil town like Fort Mac, itching for a good poker game.

  32. @Steelhead

I don't even think you need to head north to find some decent work. I think even in Red Deer there's opportunities. Take some initiative, I'm rooting for you.

  33. Concerning meat lockers:
Many, many years ago I was a college student who didn't much care for school. The summer after my first year I was hired by a butcher in downtown Seattle, and my job was to clean virtually all of the meat and fish market lockers in town, including those at Pike Place Market.

Compared to that, college was Easy Street. Whenever I started feeling crappy about being broke and having to do homework, I harkened to those ghastly lockers, then knuckled down-buckled down, and hit the books.

Now I am an old fart who loves to play poker and can afford a few losses, and I have slightly won more than I have lost since retirement. Which brings to mind …

I am well over 50 and have played poker in one form or another virtually all of my life (mom worked in a poker room), and unlike your title, I remember my losses, especially those due to my stupid plays, far more than my wins. I don't think my wins have taught me all that much about poker.

  34. @booker

      !

  35. LOL well i got a kick out of him braggin about his failures... when i started reading the "wasnt poker" train of thought i was sure another robbed behind that NewYork NewYork was coming! Good thing it sounds like your Visa woulda been maxed out and worthless...lol come back soon and tell me here your playing

  36. reading blog for the first time, still wondering about why amnightus stopped posting. at least ive got what it takes to still be blogging long haul.

  37. @sevencard2003

How can you decipher what he wrote here? Hardly any grammar or structure in the sentences...it's like he was typing like TBC does. Oh wait, maybe you can understand what he wrote here... :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

  38. @sevencard2003 By the way, how's that 'professional online dominoes player' thing workin' out for ya?
