As usual I checked into the Bellagio where I always find a $90 rate at the poker room or on the hotel's website. I play $4-8 which is the lowest game available at Bellagio, Wynn and Venetian. I like all the rooms but get more from Bellagio. Line passes more than $1 comps and I know the people in spite of being a $4-8 lowlife.

Anyway, I was not having a good trip as usual. I generally break close to even but on the last night of this trip I was down around $1000 when I got this mediocre hand an ace-3. Thought i'd see the flop which was an ace -3 4-. Feeling pretty strong I raised and was called all around. Next card a 3. Yahoo, I'll get a good start toward even on this pot says I to I. Betting went all the way on this card and on the river. We turn up the cards and one guy has an ace-3. Too bad, but its a huge pot why be greedy. One other guy was in the pot, nobody looked at him and he doesn't say a word. Not sure he spoke much English. The dealer is splitting the pot when some one says, hey this guy won. He was in the pot with a pair of fours. I am still having nightmares. Oh well it could have been a no limit game.

  1. tonight I will pray to the poker gods to make sure I avoid the bad luck you had at the poker table on this trip!

  2. What about this $90 room rate you spoke of? I'm always seeing posts where people claim these great rates..... Where do you find?

  3. In this case right on the Bellagio site. 3 nights from Jan. 3rd. Sometimes you can get a deal on one of the promotion sites. Have to make reservations way in advance but completely refundable. The poker room rate for that period is $159.

  4. Could be worse (he says as a thinly veiled excuse for this); you could have been in the wrong spot in this pot at the Palms the other day:

I'm UTG with 99 and limp, Monsieur DuMass also limps in EP, somebody I'll name Whoever because I can't remember anything about that humanoid form also limps in MP, someone I'll refer to as Gonorrhea limps from the cutoff and Syphilis sitting next to her comes along for a single bet on the button, SB completes, BB checks, there are 7 small bets in the pot (rake soon becomes immaterial) and...

    ...shazzam! Flop is A-9-6 rainbow.

In a seven way pot with the ace winking at me on a raggedy board I elect to go for the check-raise, so LR checks, DuMass bets, Who, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis all call, both blinds fold, and Local Rock raises. All call to the turn with 17 small bets in the pot.

Turn is a rather innocent looking 5 of the fourth suit. Local Rock bets out, DuMass calls, Who folds, Gonorrhea shows aggression for the first time ever at the table by raising, Syphilis 3-bets, LR flat calls as does Mssr. DuMass, then Gonorrhea caps, with Syphilis, Local Rock, and DuMass calling the final raise. 24 big bets have been pulled onto the felt. Pair the board, pair the board, one time baby, pair the motherlovin...

...ugh, river paired the Ace, giving a final board of A-9-6-5-A. Now why couldn't you just go and pair the five? Any Ace-rag lovers ever known to play this foolish game? Like A6 or A5 or sumpin' perhaps? Hmm, I check and DuMass bets, by Gonorrhea's expression she is apparently having a severe attack of gas as she calls, Syphilis brightens up and raises, I grit my teeth and flat call, and DuMass three bets it, Gonorrhea's gas is apparently worse as she calls, Syphilis dims a bit as she does the same, and I close the action with a call leaving a final pot of 36 big bets, making a rather nice mountain of chips out there just inches away begging to come home to papa.

DuMass tables AK for trips with a kicker (egads!), I table my 9s full, Gonorrhea shows the turned straight, and Syphilis shows her 66 for sixes full. I don't know what Syphilis was waiting for earlier; “trapping” to the turn I guess? So MHIG. MHIG? MHIG!

Better me than you, but better luck to you next trip.
