WHY WHY WHY

Well, made it back to sin city and found my way to Bally's card room and within a couple of hours I was up 600 after buying in for 300 at the 1/2 table. But just when I was getting ready to take my winnings and leave I ended up with KK. I raised and was called by two players. Flop is q high I bet out and get called. Turn blank, river blank and no flush draws or straight draws and I get put to the test by a re raise for another 150 on top of the already 300+ in the pot and for whatever reason I felt he had two pair, but had to call and sure enough he did have two pair. Q9 vs kk. Two hands later I get KK again and pre flop was raised by player in front of me. I call as does two other players. Flop is q high and I bet, get raised and than pot was re raised for another 300+ again into a pot that has almost 300+ in it. I asked if he had a set and I felt he did but called off my chips and sure enough he did have qq for the set. So my monster stack went from monster to less than 100 in two hands. I strattle when it came around to me and pot was raised, I look down and see JJ and push in the rest of my chips and sure enough I'm up against AK and flop brings a K and I'm done for the night. What started out as a quick profit turned out to be a 300 losing night and another mental battle within myself. Instead of going home with a handful of 100 bills I ended up with empty pockets. Gotta love this game we call poker. Take care and will see you on the felt.

  1. one pair is a MONSTER

  2. Tough run of cards. First hand seems pretty read oriented; absent a read of strength (more than a suspicion) I would be inclined to call given the size of the pot since AQ might be betting it hard if the board was innocuous. The second hand, however, seems a fairly easy fold; you are facing a raise and a sizable re-raise. You didn't mention the whole board, so not clear if there were any big draws out there, but I think you have to give one of your opponents credit for a big hand. We all hate laying down AA/KK/QQ as overpairs to the board, but sometimes you just get outflopped and have to let them go.

    Hope your luck changes soon!

  3. Thats frustrating...but i try to never go broke with only one pair, and unless you have a good read on someone (which i find real hard to do consistently with players you don't play with often), i throw away muck my over pair often when faced with raises.

And the check raise in NO LIMIT on the turn is one of my danger signs to muck unless Im on a nut draw with a cheap price.

I try to avoid this altogether and play mid limit poker cash games.

Good luck...itll turn around...it always does.

  4. but i try to never go broke with only one pair,

Which hand is your preferred hand for going broke?

I usually prefer to go broke with 2 pair on a straight or flush board, although sometimes TP, GK is enough.
