Ok, well I flew into town to try my luck at one of the 1k events, and man, people weren't lying about the structure, it is a little quick. I play in a lot of local donkaments with 50-200 buyins where it's a continual short stack tourny so I thought I'd be fine here where levels are an hour and start at 25/25. I was not. I was able to chip up to 4k within the first few levels, but after that things started going sour with AK missing more than once and not getting many other hands. So what, raise and steal right? That'd be great but I had 2 pros directly on my left, and 6 pros at the table - making the raise and c-bet strat tough (sp on all of these: Affleck, jewish fro from ivy league guy, bankrollme87, see his twitter for the names of the rest of the FT players at my table). Especially considering one pro on my left was going apesht crazy 3-bet and 4-bet wise so I wanted to have a hand when I decided to stand up to him (because I couldn't tell if he was just hot yet and I cripple myself with that few chips if I make the wrong move).

Anywho, I survive the first table with a few lucky all-ins when I was short and I find myself with 9k and a table change. New table is amazing! Players are bad and I can raise and steal. I 3-bet with 22 the second hand I'm in and I win the pot (pots were so significant that I decided to 3bet every pair, and the same guy raised late position again). Anyway, I get AA a loop later, and same guy raises and I 3bet again, damn, no action. That makes KK, KK, KK, AA and the only time I "got action" was when I slow played KK and flopped quads =( (got a small c-bet in that hand and thats it). Anyway, I eventually flop a set with 22 (yay) and I have 8500 chips to start the hand. 2h7h8h, all hearts tho, yuck. It was 3 way action with 100-200 blinds 25 ante and I had raised to 475 pre so I just bet 1500 on the flop, and SB called (had a big stack), turn 4h. Check/check. and river Ad. He bets 2k, I realize my set only is now only a bluff catcher, but considering the size of the pot I gamboool and make a bad call, he shows KhJc. Oh well, I guess I reinforced his bad play by making the call on the river. I was hoping to see a pair turned bluff (or any bluff for that matter). I play a couple more hands, blinds go up, and I'm shortstacked in the BB with Q9dd, min raise from a bad player who bets 1/2 pot with air and 3/4 with a hand (so far in about 5 hands, I got to see a couple). Flop Q 5 6, I check, he bets half pot, I have to shove and do, he snaps with Q10o. Nice hand and I'm out.

I have a few beers while walking thru the Rio and later decide to play some 2/5NL cuz I haven't got my fix yet. The beers influence my play a bit and I'm a bit laggier than normal. I.E: 9c7c otb, raiser pops to 15 from MP i pop to 40. flop AJ10 she bets 50 (don't donk into me ho) I raise to 150, she calls (hands over for me). turn X, check check, river K, she bets 200-250 and i fold, she shows J10 and I do everything I can to hold in "wtf do you think I had?" Good play because now the table thinks I folded AK (lolololol). Then I go on the heater of all heaters, KK, AK (hitting), AA, 222, and my laggy image gets me PAID. I make my buyin back and I'm happy to play some sports. Overall, the Rio rake is higher, but the action can be quite juicy. Location location location.

Next day: Vogelsong vs Hammel under 8? are you kidding? $100 please, thanks for the free money. Miami/Dallas under 94 2nd half +115? Thanks again. Doing alright on my picks today too, 2/3 so far with 2 in the balance. I may update later, wish me luck! If I wasn't descriptive enough with WSOP action or w/e let me know.

  1. Sounds like lots of fun. Keep us updated.

  2. Unfortunately, the Nats can't hold a 4-0 lead; there was so much value in that game +170, but bleh, loss. I go back to the Rio to play some more 2/5 and I haven't seen that many dueces in my life. The players were a little better, well, I say that and then this hand happened about 3 loops in (table is all new players).

Guy has either been raising to 25 every hand or calling a raise every hand for about 5 hands in a row. I have A8 in MP, but the table is short 6-7 handed, and I raise to 20, same guy calls. Flop Jc 8d 6s. I bet 30, he calls. Turn 8c. I bet 45 he calls. River 4c. I bet 45, he raises to 175, and I don't think he's bluffing, but I think his range may include 78,89, etc, so I call. He shows 10c5c, I sht you not 10c5c. I do very well in not saying anything, berating him, or questioning him, but I have no idea what his play was going to be... raise big on the turn unless it's a club? Whatever. Taking it easy for a bit. Heading over to Red Rock to hang out for a couple days.

  3. Red Rock is nice. I don't know if I'll ever STAY on the strip again (visit yes), but this is much more my style: better music and volume, less crowded, less smokey, nice pool.

Played some 2/5 tonight, got run over with the deck and then it went so cold. Only two hands of note after my heater:

I've prolly played 3 hands in the last 5-6 loops and im MP with j9o and im bored, i raise to 20. Donkey calls me who just "got rivered" two hands in a row and is on monkey tilt. SB calls, and limper calls.

Flop kh8x2h, check, check, I rep the King (call me retarded, w/e) and bet 50, guy behind calls, others fold. turn Ks. i think and check, he checks behind. i put him on the FD now and river 2x. I bet 1/3 pot he calls with Qh7h. G-D monkey tilt. I value bet with 22-AA or K there 100% of the time to get value from an ace high FD. I dunno what he put me on.... J9? Good read.

Then, one limper and I have KQo in MP i raise to 20, donkey calls me, SB calls, limper calls. Flop Qs10s7x, check, limper fires 50, i call, SB calls. Turn 4s. SB checks, and limper bets 75, this is a really weird spot because the spade doesn't freeze him, and i have a flop caller behind, also, I have the Ks. I think for a minute about the guy left to act and decide a straight draw is just as likely so I'll call and fold to a raise due to the small bet sizing. SB folds and its HU to the river. River Kx. Limper thinks and bets $320!!!!!!! WHAT!? I say to myself, "well, he's got the nuts or a missed straight and I'm leaning nuts." I think for about 2 minutes, clock is called, and I fold. He later hints that he had the nut flush. I really don't know what else he could've had, it's an interesting line as opposed to the check turn bet river with the nuts (to give the last player left to act the option to close the pot with a call).
