WSOP CASH #1 ( little long)
Event #25 ($2000 Buy in) I had at least 3 pros at my table and was intimidated with KK when one pro called my raise of 4x BB from the SB and flop came 7-8-9 rainbow. I bet at it and he came over me. I laid them down. This was early ($50 blinds) so I just was not ready to go out if he had AA or J-T. I think I made the right play at that time.
I was busted in 3 hours after I get REAL lucky after my all in open ended straight draw hits on the turn, but then found the next hand I had A-Q in the cutoff. Flop was A-10-7. Pushed all in to pro holding pocket 10’s. It was fun.
Played several 2-5 NL games at Rio room. Some wild action, but a lot of good players and it depended on table. I would rate competition there above average during this time. Ran into some wild players, but when they did have the cards look out!
I then decided about 11 am Saturday to enter another WSOP event. Event #27, (12 pm $1500 buy in) I had another all in with open ended straight draw hit for me followed by pocket AA in the following hand with two others all in. Boom, I am up in chips big time.
Then I get moved to a terrible table (for me), pros with chip stacks and I took a huge hit on my stack when I missed a nut flush draw and the pro made me pay for it. I figured I needed some luck to survive so I gambled a little. I went to dinner break on the short stack and even took a shower expecting to go to late dinner or play black jack soon. Somehow I stabbed a couple of pots without having to go all in and I catch JJ in the BB with a kid all in on the button. We had about 10 k each. I took about 3 minutes to think and finally made the call. He has AJ and I held up. I stalled to the bubble and find AA with 10 spots to the $$!! I played them but I bet about 10 x BB UTG and no callers.
I was finally put out after clearing the bubble when my AK got busted by A10 as it came j-9-7-8- whatever. Oh it hurt, but I understand the cards will not always hold and with 2300 players what are you going to do? You have to get lucky and avoid being unlucky. I finished between about 150 and 198 got about $3500. It was fun. I think I am an average player who got lucky, but I can’t wait for 2008.
I also played the Venetian deep stack Sunday. It was a good structure, and the players were not WSOP tough in my opinion. Again got busted when AK hit K on flop but 2 on river gave opponent trips. Oh well, I hate AK.
Played 1-2 NL cash game and had some strong players there too, but plenty of weak. I did have one hand that was weird. I had pocket 7 and called a $12 raise with two bettors in already, button also called. Flop comes As-Ks- 4h. Check to button, $25 raise from solid tight player. Everyone else folds to me and I call because I am going to make a move on any card that shows straight or flush on turn. Turn is 7. I think a few seconds and check, he bets $60. Now to call or push, so I raise it another $100. He goes all in for last $130. I call and show my set. He mucks and gets pissed. Others at table give me real hard time over the $25 call, I don’t really explain my thinking on the move, but how do I know he wasn’t representing something he didn’t have too? I just felt I could make a bet and win and the lucky 7 was just a “windfall”. Oh well Venetian room is nice and competition can vary. I was up about $600 in 4 hours.
Thanks to everyone who writes trip reports as I plan my trips based on these reports.
Congrats on the WSOP cash! That big of a field, you should be proud of the accomplishment. Did you play with any "big name" pros?
As for the 7s at the V, sounds like a good play to me. Don't worry what the loser thinks, focus on stacking his chips.
Thanks, I played well to cash but had to get lucky for sure. It was fun. No real names at my tables, but plenty of tough "non tv" pros.
