As It's not possible to write a review about PokerStars live in Macau, I'll post my experience here. (Cannot find it in the list of poker rooms in the review page)

I arrived to Macau on a Thursday and wanted to play in the only poker room in Macau that has tournaments and not only nose bleed high stakes cash games. As I had my family there too I decide to play only tournaments that started at 7pm. Structure on the Thursday tourney is not that good in my opinion. The buy in is 1.000 HKD or about 130 USD with bounty and no re-buy. The level time is 20 min which is ok, but the stack size is only 2.500. This privileges luck more than sound poker play. Not my favorite.

Once I sit down I feel like I'm the only foreign object there in a pool of sharks and regs. The regs are mostly locals with some foreigners that live there. Management and floor are almost not enforcing any rules. The local regs can talk Chinese with each other in the hand. The management also stay with us and talk Chinese with the regs and the dealer. Once their buddies bust out, they hang on their friends chair and talk and cheer loudly in Chinese when the others are playing. The floor AND dealers don't mind at all. For what I'm concerned they can talk about the strength of their hand without us non Chinese speaking would know. Once a local is all in, the other locals cheers for their buddies. If I win an all in and knock out a local, you can feel they don't like it. Not really a friendly place for visitors to play unless the management start cleaning up. The whole place is run by locals as well. I would have thought that with the PokerStars name someone would take this serious and clean up, but no.......

So over to the good news... I did got lucky with QQ early in a triple all in. Built my stack from there and ended up wining the tourney.

Second day, Friday, is the 2.000 HKD / 300 USD tourney. 20 min levels, but with 5.000 stacks. Much more to my liking. Again, managed to build my stack early and survived the bubble. 4 places where paid and it was me and 3 locals. I was the second low stack and even there was one local with a tiny stack, no one proposed a 4 way chop. Managed to build my stack to the second biggest with two locals with tiny stacks. All the time I understood that they wanted to chop as soon as they could knock me out. However when the table turned and my stack was growing and they understood they could not loose me that easy, they proposed a chop. Ok, so we chopped and I cashed again.

All in all, poker wise I'm quite happy to win the first and 4 way chop the next tourney. I doubt I will be back anytime soon. You feel just so much more welcome in Vegas!

PokerStars Macau. Get a grip and clean this up!

  1. Wow very interesting to hear about poker in Macau. I hope to go there some day. Thanks for sharing!

  2. My favorite part about the pokerstars macau room is the all in triangle....u just make a triangle with your hands(like flashing a gang sign) and that means you are all-in. I've been having so much fun with it here!
