I'm new to live poker and I had played several sessions at the Hollywood casino in St. Louis. Tonight I figured I would give him Ameristar a shot.
I called ahead and got on the waitlist so when I arrived, I was next up. However, there was only one game going so although I waited about 30 minutes it could've been much longer.
The poker room is not closed off the rest of the casino so very much smells like a casino. The chips were generally cleaner and less sticky than Hollywood but the tables and chairs were not great.
The staff was all very friendly but some of the dealers seem to have trouble with complicated side pots, etc.
Several regulars cannot help themselves, but engage in bottom of the barrel political discussion. The dealers or floor did not step in to do anything about it.
The action was great for a while but the game eventually broke about 10:15 PM.
I would've liked to have played for longer and really just disappointed that I didn't go to Hollywood casino instead.
