Ocean’s Eleven used to be a great place to play poker, but it has been mismanaged to a point that I would now recommend staying away. Unfortunately, Ocean’s Eleven is one of only a couple places to play poker in San Diego, and I believe this has led to complacency and, in turn, many of the issues outlined below:
Let's start with the pros
- Good variety of cash games
- Consistently good food and friendly waitstaff and cocktail servers
- Some exceptional employees
- Ideal location
Now for the cons
- Inexperienced and unmotivated dealers without proper training; with a few exceptions, many of the dealers often make no attempt to pay attention to the action or game; they do not enforce rules or etiquette; make inexcusable mistakes like taking too much rake or are unable to read hands at showdown
- Decision to end the progressive bad beat jackpot promotion (jackpot is now seeded and kept at $20,000)
- Regular increases of the rake and ending a long-standing, player-friendly house rule of “no flop, no drop”
- Modified player loyalty cash back program which is now much worse for recreational players
- Lack of professionalism and customer service throughout every level of the organization
