On a recent trip to SoCal I had a free weekend and headed toward the beach off the 5 only to see the Ocean's 11 signs calling my name. It was a typically gorgeous California day, so of course I opted for the card room. Turned out to be a very good choice. The place boasted a large and well run poker room- I was told 50 tables, comfortable chairs, fast well trained dealers, great food, and any poker variant you could want to play. I chose to play an hour of pineapple waiting for the 10am Sat deep stack to start. The tourney buy-in of $75 got you 10k in chips, but $50 and $10 add-on doubled that for a nice starting stack. With about 12 tables to start and re-entry's, The money pool was very tidy. I very much enjoyed the play with a great mix of local pros, regulars and tourists. Staff kept the room well organized while breaking tables and color-ups and there seemed to be plenty of waitstaff attending to needs of all players. My only complaint in that regard was the lack of massage staff. May have been the early time, or I caught them short staffed, but I didn't see any. Play was mixed as expected, but the variety of personalities lent to an already fun atmosphere. Pay structures was fair and payout waits short. I was lucky enough to finish 4th on a single bullet. My criteria for judging a casino outside of Vegas or AC is this- Would I carve out time on a trip to re-visit a place or explore new adventures, in the case of Ocean's 11, I will be sure to add it to future plans. Lots of fun and solid play! Stack em high - FrankieFive Fingers
